Tetra Tech, Inc. is seeking a qualified Biologist/Environmental Scientist to support work at its Portland, ME office. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of our natural resources projects and programs.
This may include collecting biological field data (e.g., avian, mammalian, fish, benthic invertebrates, and amphibian surveys), deploying and maintaining acoustic bat detectors and avian radar equipment, performing natural resources surveys (e.g., habitat, functional assessments, vegetation, wetlands, and vernal pools), and operating and collecting GPS data. Field components may require long hours and be physically demanding. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform data entry, data analysis and reporting. Conduct surveys in a variety of settings, such as in boats, offshore environments, mountainous areas, and in urban areas.
Perform duties as Field Team Lead or provide a strong support role on field teams for biological field data collection (e.g. birds, bats, fish, benthic invertebrates, mammalian, and herptile surveys). Conduct breeding bird, migrant stopover, raptor, shorebird, and seabird surveys. Deploy and maintain avian and bat acoustic equipment and avian radar units (training will be provided).
Perform wetland delineations in accordance with current USACE protocols; Map habitat types and sensitive resources. Perform all aspects of work in a professional manner. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: A BS or BA degree or higher in Biology, Environmental Studies, Natural Resources, or a related field. Possess a minimum of 2 years of applicable experience.
Be proficient with MS Office Suite. Have the ability to travel extensively during the field season. Possess flexibility and adaptability to meet fast-paced demands and the cyclical and deadline-driven nature of consulting. Be highly motivated and have the ability to work well in a team environment, as well as independently.
Must be multi-task oriented and possess excellent problem solving skills. Have technical abilities and the ability to use hand tools, power tools and operate vehicles off road. Experience with towing equipment with full-sized pickups, is a plus. Strong report writing, statistical analysis and data analysis skills desired.
