The City of Cherryvale is accepting applications for Deputy Chief, Paramedic. This position reports directly to the Chief of the department. Essential duties include responding to emergency calls and supervision of all career and volunteer staff. The deputy chief plans, develops, reviews, implements and evaluates department policies under direction of the fire Chief. Under the guidance of the Chief, the DC disseminates guidance, regulations and procedures to subordinates, prepares and schedules assignments to subordinates and directs all CFR personnel.

Desired qualifications include: Ø

IFSAC certifications o

Firefighter 1 and 2 o

Fire officer 1 and 2 o

Fire instructor 1 Ø

Associate degree in Fire Science, paramedicine or related field Ø

NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800 Ø

Current paramedic certification from State of Kansas (EMT, NREMT, or NREMT-P applications accepted) Ø

Hazardous materials operations certification Ø

Additional KSBEMS certifications o

TO1 or TO2 Ø

5 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar sized or larger department Ø

At least 1 year of experience as a Captain or equivalent rank Ø

Willing to reside in or near Cherryvale per residency requirement

It is the department’s preference to remain within the guidelines outlined above. However, the department reserves the right to waive any of the above requirements when it is deemed to be in the best interest of the department as determined by the Fire Chief.

The City of Cherryvale’s Fire-Rescue Department was chartered in February 1884, making it one of the oldest career fire departments in the state of Kansas. The department has 6 full-time career employees and 20 volunteers that respond to approximately 625 medical and 165 fire calls per year. We operate 1 Type 2A ambulance, 1 medium duty rescue, 2 pumpers and 1 staff vehicle from 1 station. We offer EMS and rescue services for 145 square miles and city only fire protection. Our EMS unit operates under progressive, full standing order protocols. Our members are heavily involved in regional deliveries as well with members serving on MGCO LEPC, SEKAFC, Kansas Rescue Task Force 4, Region 6 DMSU, etc.

The coverage area includes 145 square miles including the corners of Labette, Neosho and Montgomery counties. In that area are heavy rail traffic, with the headquarters of WATCO and SKO RR, three major highways, US400, US160 and US169 and numerous industrial occupancies.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or acceptable equivalent and a Kansas driver’s license with a safe driving record in addition to Kansas Paramedic Certification. EMT and NREMT-P candidate applications will be accepted.

Salary is DOQ, residency requirements do apply for FULL TIME POSITIONS (please see below). This position will work a 24 hour shift rotation with required call time.

Residency Requirements:
All persons becoming career employees of the City of Cherryvale Fire-Rescue Department must be or must become a resident of the City or physically reside in the unincorporated area surrounding the City within the State of Kansas and within a seven (7) minute drive time of the Cherryvale Fire Station.
