Network Engineer - Journeyman (Job Number: 400351)
SAIC is building a team to provide Enterprise Information Technology (IT) Solutions Sustainment support and the associated management and administration, for the delivery of a combination of hardware infrastructure and application infrastructure necessary to achieve a complete, centralized and elastic environment for Building, Hosting, Integrating, and Managing Web enabled business applications and/or application services to SEC’s Enterprise Solutions Directorate (ESD). This shall be accomplished by using agile development approaches and by integrating different technologies to include both the re-write of legacy systems and the addition of features to existing systems to maximize cost savings, resource utilization and provide a solution to unique Army business application’s hosting and management challenges. This position supports Army Communications Electronic Command (CECOM) SEC ESD.
Provides Network Engineering support for as part of a team working the design, implementation and test of a Cloud Infrastructure As A Service (IaaS) solution to include processing, storage, networks, and other operating environments. The Infrastructure shall also provide for integration with public IaaS Cloud providers such as Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and should be expected to be able to support an average 200 Virtual Machines (VM) segregated across 4 network segments with 50GB of average storage per VM. Conducts all relative activities pertaining to sustainment of ESD’s networks, network management, network design, network support, network enhancement and network security operations to ensure mission operations, protection, availability and reliability of ESD’s secure and non-secure networks, related systems and equipment. Performs infrastructure management support functions for the ESD Automated Information System (AIS) Network to include: monitoring network resources (availability, integrity and corporate resources) to ensure they are operating; managing connectivity to remote sites and the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) Non-Secure Internet Protocol Network (NIPRNet); implementing infrastructure enhancements; rectifying all problems/failures as they occur; obtaining repair services when hardware malfunctions occur; documenting network configurations and maintaining schematics of the ESD Network topology. Provides Mission Application Development Engineering support for production, development and test network configurations; develops and maintains operational policies and procedures, and provides sustainment engineering support. Provides alternative design approaches that will include tradeoff analyses and identify technical risks to the network. Advises ESD on state-of-the-art technology for new, innovative or advanced hardware and software products or techniques that will enhance, improve or advance ESD’s network synergy, capability, effectiveness and efficiency; test and recommend products or techniques for implementation. May perform other duties as required.
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institute in an area applicable to this position (e.g. information systems, computer science, math, or engineering) and 5 years of experience.
The position requires experience in design, implementation and test of networking solutions for Cloud Infrastructure As A Service (IaaS) implementations. Must be capable of performing network engineering functions including: conceptualization, design, implementation, and optimization. Must be experienced in assessing evolving user needs, translating those needs into network changes through network reconfiguration, hardware and software acquisitions, installation and test. Must be knowledgeable in the application of current and emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols. Must be able to solve engineering problems in the functional area to which assigned.
Positions require active Secret clearance or higher, and DoD 8750 Certification. Per DoD 8570.01-M , DFARS 252.239.7001 and AR 25-2, the contractor employees supporting IA/IT functions shall be appropriately certified upon contract award. The baseline certification as stipulated in DoD 8570.01-M must be completed upon contract award. Contractor personnel providing systems administration support shall be at a minimum Information Assurance Training (IAT) Level II certified or have the ability to meet IAT Level II requirements within 180 days of appointment.
