Provides global Merchandising strategic and operational decisions around product selection, 1-2 year demand planning/forecasting, procurement/replenishment of inventory in order to effectively support our global New Balance eCommerce business growth. Direct and develop a team of Analysts and Site Merchandisers to meet global brand strategic goals and expectations.


  • Develops and manages merchandise productivity plan (e.g. Direct Open-to-Buys, Assortment Plans, Margin Plans, Turn Goals, etc.)
  • Accountable for merchandise division performance, recommends revisions to the merchandise plan/forecast based on sound analysis and ensures corrective actions are implemented
  • Manage the creation and placement of purchase orders
  • Consistently monitor current sales trends to assure prompt inventory action is being taken and to assess accuracy of the inventory forecasts ; direct Analyst(s) to adjust orders as needed
  • Analyze product performance on a department, classification, and style level and react appropriately to sales trends. Responsible for initiating style level markdowns to ensure sell through meeting turn goals
  • Direct and manages the online product merchandising strategy for each NB Branded website
  • Collaborates with marketing & product teams to best maximize brand positioning and category definition. Evaluate and maintain effective category groupings, sequencing, site search filtering and categorization strategies that facilitate efficient search, reinforce a positive brand experience and support effective visual merchandising
  • Oversee online eCommerce product selection and pricing across globe
  • Direct and communicate all objectives to Brand and cross functional partners to ensure product and assortment needs are met
  • Maintain good relationships with Operations Management (Customer Care, Warehouse and Creative Services) to ensure associate-level working relationships are effective and the interdepartmental communications are contributing towards positive business results
  • Partners with Sourcing, Customer Service and the DC to secure timely delivery dates and communicates needs/strategies with the NB ecommerce team
  • Ensures new products are set-up on time and merchandised according to analytics, testing data and relevant strategies
  • Utilize selling and analytics and collaboration with Creative Services to identify opportunities to improve conversion, product page view, cross-sell and add to cart rates, all to drive sales for areas of responsibility
  • Partners with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Operations, Brand & IT) to create a compelling site, focusing on user experience, brand direction, converting sales, etc. Explores new opportunities and services for merchandising the site; tests and develops roll-out strategy for those deemed likely to meet sales and ROI goals
  • Identify cost reduction opportunities and develop strategy for implementation
  • Keep informed of pending price increases, new products, canceled products, and products that will become obsolete, taking the appropriate actions necessary to optimize opportunities and minimize inventory risks
  • Review demand forecasts, product/sku performance, inventory reports, and other investment tools to maintain proper inventories
  • Develop metrics to manage and report on forecast accuracy
  • Demonstrate an on-going commitment to improvement
  • Develop Analyst(s) by creating SMART goals and by providing them with honest and regular feedback regarding their performance
  • Fulfill all functions of a supervisory position including: hiring, discipline, performance management, timecard approval, etc., while keeping in line with our company values
  • Provide clear communication of department and team priorities
  • Promote positive team and company morale

  • Attend semi-annual sales conferences
  • Assist in other duties as needed

  • Ability to think and plan strategically (6-24 months)
  • Must be able to make effective purchasing decisions 1-2 years in advance
  • Understands basic financial models and how personal actions impact those models
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Advanced computer skills with advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Excellent communication skills as defined by proper grammar, spelling and context in written documents and proper tone and tactful word choice to promote respectful and collaborative team environment
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and manage competing demands
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills as demonstrated through taking an investigative approach to problem-solving and being solutions-oriented

  • Advanced math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis
  • Ability to make knowledgeable business decisions and clearly communicate the justification of those decisions
  • Strong supervisory skills that promote, facilitate and develop skills and performance of team members
  • Demonstrate initiative
  • Prioritizes and uses time efficiently; develops realistic action plans
  • Speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations
  • Demonstrate group presentation and meeting skills
  • Ability to sit for several hours at a time operating a computer

  • Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years planning/buying/merchandising experience
  • 2+ years supervisory experience
  • eCommerce experience, preferred
