The successful candidate for this position will create electrical distribution studies which identify load, voltage, protection and reliability concerns. Based on these studies they shall develop and submit budget items to resolve system concerns. This engineering position requires an excellent understanding of medium voltage power system characteristics such as equipment loading, protection and application. A good understanding of power quality is also necessary. The successful candidate must work effectively with Electrical Customers, Field Operations and Corporate groups.
Responsibilities of this position include the following:
Prepare medium voltage electrical distribution studies to identify system deficiencies and needs.
Perform distribution analysis, planning and budgeting for network improvements related to reliability and protection.
Support budgeting related to medium voltage electrical network needs.
Help document electrical load growth and identify future load additions.
Help maintain & update system power flow and other computer models.
Provide network engineering studies, including Power Flow, Fault Duty, Switching and Contingency Analysis.
Provide clear and understandable project documentation which describes alternatives and risks.
Perform role as expert electrical network consultant for Field Operations.
Provide liaison role for companies that interconnect to company distribution system, including load forecast issues.
Support special projects as they are assigned within the Distribution Engineering Department.
Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
Analyze and design engineering methods.
Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, processes, or facilities to support company objectives.
In addition to the above, senior level will also include the following responsibilities:
Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments .
Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, technicians and drafters
Maintain project timelines and budgets. Requirements of this position include the following:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
A minimum of two or more years distribution engineering and/or related experience in medium voltage power systems.
In-depth understanding of high & medium voltage distribution system theory and engineering principles.
Familiarity with wide range of medium voltage electrical system equipment and operations.
Experience with power system analysis computations and distribution power flow simulation tools.
Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
Understanding of company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
Knowledge of electrical codes and standards related to electrical distribution systems which include the National Electric Safety Codes, National Electrical Code, American National Standards Institute and The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
Must be proficient in MS applications which include Word, Excel and Power Point.
Ability to travel and perform field work as needed.
Must possess valid driver's license.
In addition to the above, candidates may be considered for a Senior-level position if they also meet the following requirements:
A minimum of five or more years distribution engineering and/or related experience in medium voltage power systems.
Preference may be given to candidates who meet the above requirements and have the following:
Seven or more years of distribution engineering work experience.
Experience working in field offices or with operation groups.
Degree in Electrical Power Engineering and Professional Engineer License (PE)
Knowledge of ASPEN One-liner and ABB FeederAll software.
