Summary: Manage, develop, and implement environmental, health, and safety program for the Ooltewah, TN facility. Implements all requirements under Federal, State, Local and Corporate regulatory requirements. Ensures that plant management is kept informed on all EHS issues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Manage the overall EH&S responsibilities for the operations.
Develop EH&S operational procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, federal and corporate requirements. Recommends course of action and develop procedures for compliance with new and revised permits, laws, rules, and regulations.
Submits all required reports to regulatory agencies. Maintains all related records and documents. Interact both verbally and in writing with required agencies.
Responsible for wastewater treatment plant, Hazardous waste, air programs, internal audits, training, transportation, disposal, etc.
Maintains current credentials and knowledge of regulatory environment through attendance at workshops and seminars and the review of The Code of Federal Regulations, The Federal Register and other literature as appropriate.
Acts as the plant liaison with the local community, regulatory agencies, and other outside agencies involving environmental issues.
Surveys, compiles, and analyzes data relating to occupational and environmental health issues such as chemical and lead exposure, temperatures, dusts, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, and ergonomics which are known or suspected of being real or potential detriments to health.
Performs safety evaluations and hazardous waste evaluations.
Develops and monitors emergency action plan. Issues and monitors hot work permits, confined space entries and lockout/tagout permits.
Develops and implements a program and system to track and evaluate worker injuries. Investigates causes of accidents to identify preventative measures.
Develops and facilitates health and safety training to educate workers and contractors on issues related to health and safety.
Lead monthly safety committee meetings and assign job functions to committee members.
Perform required audits on disposal facilities and other contracted services where lead contaminated product, debris or waste is regulated.
Support customer requests and sales team through EH&S questions, hydrogen gas emissions, and other requested support.
Work with Engineering on projects that involve Appropriation Requests to ensure all EHS requirements are included prior to being approved. .

- BS in Engineering / Technology or related field. Must have skills and knowledge in the following areas:
- Minimum 5 years manufacturing experience
- Experience in managing environmental, health, and safety compliance in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of EPA, DOT, OSHA regulations
- Experience interacting with regulatory personnel (inspections, meetings, etc.)
- Relevant requirement of environmental laws, regulations and related documents
- Environmental management systems and standards including audit procedures, processes and techniques
- DOT trained
- Emergency response experience
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software and Internet software.
Certificates and Licenses:
Maintains annual certification in RCRA Hazardous Waste Management
Maintains opacity certifications per EPA Method 9
Directly supervises seven employees. Responsible for 6 hourly employees and the 2nd shift health and safety coordinator. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
