La Tienda is a family company with offices in Spain and in Toano, Va. Founded in 1996, La is the category leader in online gourmet food sales from Spain. Over 4 million unique visitors a year generate over 100,000 orders. The main company website, along with several ancillary sites, have all been developed in-house, utilizing LAMP on the back-end and JAVA, AJAX and HTML5 on the front end. Our immediate need is to hire a programmer to administer the back end structure, working with a web development team which is responsible for look and feel.

In-House Programmer- Job Summary

The candidate will be a talented and motivated PHP / LAMP developer who will further develop and maintain our database architecture. We are looking for someone with passion who loves coding, is excited by the opportunity to innovate and is also eager to sink their teeth into a challenging, complex and dynamic project. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a small environment, has a start up mentality as well as outstanding communication skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead the development team to further develop the current system architecture
  • Design and manage backend database systems to support current and new commercial websites, as well as in house reporting and data management tools
  • Optimize large and complex queries and business intelligence
  • Will participate in active program design sessions and design reviews

Other Required Skills

  • 5 years of PHP object-oriented development experience; strong background with PHP 5
  • Extensive experience with Linux, Apache (mod_php, moderewrite), XHTML/CSS, Javascript, XML web services, SOAP. SVN, bash scripting, and content management systems
  • Strong MySQL database design/development
  • Must have an understanding of the relation between the website front-end and underlying technologies such as Apache, SOAP, DNS, and Distributed Servers
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to quickly analyze functional problems and provide efficient code fixes
  • Experience designing and building complex, challenging projects
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into functional products and make good design decisions
  • Ability to effectively interact with other organizational units
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, test-driven collaborative and iterative programming environment

Experience and Education

  • BS in computer science, MS preferred
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish and English a plus.
