Under the administrative supervision of the Administrator of Behavioral Health, and the clinical supervision of the Chief of Behavioral Health, the Psychiatrist for the Division of Behavioral Health ("the Psychiatrist") provides psychiatric and medication management consultative services to Mercy attending and primary care physicians for adolescent through geriatric patients with chemical dependency and mental health issues who are admitted to Mercy Hospital through the Emergency Department or Recovery Center in accordance with physician directives, medical bylaws, established protocols, and within practice guidelines established by the Board of Medicine. The incumbent performs outpatient behavioral health consultations as requested, maintains communication with referring physicians and post discharge facilities as needed to establish continuum of care. The Psychiatrist shall provide on-call consultation coverage to the Division of Behavioral Health and, in said capacity, provides supervision to Behavioral Health social worker staff, Nurse Practitioners, interns and/or residents in Behavioral Health rotation. Incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position. In addition, the incumbent conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

M.D. or D.O. required. Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maine. Must be Board certified or eligible in psychiatry. Must be a member in good standing of the Mercy Hospital medical staff, with all clinical privileges necessary to perform the services required. Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as the incumbent relates to patients, their families and significant others, referring physicians, interdisciplinary staff, administrative and ancillary support staff of the hospital. Must have a commitment to high quality, resource-efficient patient care. Incumbent has access to highly confidential patient information. Must have high degree of accountability of practice methods and results.
