This position performs non-administrative functions in the absence of the Director of Pharmacy. Supervises the pharmacy technicians and provides input to the Director of Pharmacy for their performance evaluations. Checks all physician orders, unit dose cart, medications and labels. Dispenses narcotics and maintains narcotic inventory records. Prepares IVs and IVPB solutions. Compounds pharmaceutical preparations when necessary. Services the ER, OR, Anesthesia and other ancillary departments of the hospital. Dispenses employee and volunteer outpatient prescriptions and physician requests. Inspects or assists in the inspection of the nursing units and maintenance of appropriate stock. Reorders medications from wholesaler/manufacturer and assists in maintaining adequate inventory. Maintains adequate IV solution inventory on the shelves. Assists in the identification and return of outdated and unusable merchandise. Assists the Director of Pharmacy in preparing Q.A. audits and data collection and in the selection and maintenance of the Hospital Formulary. Responds to and assists in Code Blue situations when appropriate. Provides drug information to healthcare providers. Participates in hospital wide inservices and departmental staff meetings. Maintains adequate continuing education. Communicates pertinent information to the Director of Pharmacy. Follows Corporate Responsibility policies and completes modules as required. Bachelor of Pharmacy and current licensure to practice in the State of Michigan required. License/Certification Required PharmD and previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred. Ability to type is required. Must possess good organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
