Position Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Seafood Inspection Laboratory (NSIL) conducts the Import Monitoring Program for Bluefin Tuna, Bigeye Tuna, Swordfish, and Toothfish. The Data Entry Technician will be onsite at NSIL to complete the data entry in a timely manner needed to meet the reporting requirements. The timely entry of the data is paramount, as the data summaries provided in these reports are used at semi-annual management meetings where fishing harvest of these internationally managed fisheries are monitored and harvest quotas negotiated. The Data Entry Technician will perform the following functions:

- Enter and manage data from electronic files and hardcopy statistical and re-export documents received by the Import Monitoring Program
- Transmit the data to NSIL Staff for QA/QC review
- Edit the entered data based on input from QA/QC data reviews performed by NSIL staff
- Identify and communicate problems and efficiency issues related to the data entry process and data entry screens to NSIL Staff for corrections and modifications
- Intermittently assist in document preparations

The Data Entry Technician will need to have experience: entering data into Oracle based platform data entry screens; using Microsoft Visual FoxPro based data entry screens; entering complex data from hardcopy documents accurately into electronic databases; and database management experience.

Required Skills
1 – 2 years of data entry experience in similar high volume and time sensitive technical environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and FoxPro, and data entry in an Oracle based platform is required. Data quality control experience is a plus.

The Data Entry Technician will need to have experience: entering data into Oracle based platform data entry screens; using Microsoft Visual FoxPro based data entry screens; entering complex data from hardcopy documents accurately into electronic databases; and database management experience.

Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

Education
Degree preferred.
