The Assistant Director of Marketing and Public Relations is responsible for initiating, recommending, preparing and approving all public relations information and materials, including PR campaigns, speeches, public service announcements, advertisements, newsletters, promotional and informational materials, news releases and video presentations. This position requires ongoing communication with the members of the College staff and faculty as well as developing and maintaining positive relationships with media representatives and the community at large.

Assist the Director with public relations planning, strategy and implementation of related tactics and activities, and manages public relations campaigns and events.

Manage relationships with media representatives, develops and coordinates media and public relations plans.

Supervise staff as assigned

Produce and analyze media reports that measure the college’€™s publicity efforts and the media value

Coordinate annual media plan.

Assist the Graphics Project Manager by providing copy for various College publications including, but not limited to, class schedules, catalog and student handbook

Write copy for various booklets, brochures, flyers, video projects and speeches

Write and edit content for the college’s Web site

Oversee the production of the College’s in-house electronic newsletter

Write feature articles about students, faculty, and staff and other topics for distribution to selected media and target audiences

Serve as a photographer for various College functions and events

Assist in coordinating the activities and functions of the OCCC Alumni Association.

Write advertising copy for both print and electronic media, and produce or assist in the production of all broadcast and print advertising.

Minimum Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, or mass communications or related field

Five years full time professional public relations work experience

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of public relations campaigns and integrated marketing strategies

Knowledge of Windows compatible platforms and of word processing and desktop publishing software, including Microsoft Word, PhotoShop, and Adobe InDesign or other publishing software

Photography and videography skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Able to meet strict deadlines

Able to work on multiple tasks

Able to manage projects through to completion


Strong interpersonal skills

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Able to carry camera equipment to photography location as needed

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Marketing or Public Relations or related field.

Demonstrated management experience

Professional public relations work experience in an higher education environment
