Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the successful service delivery and service support for one or more end customer facing ASP/Software as a Service applications. The lead engineer will be the Subject Matter Expert for the application(s) within the hosting organization. The lead engineer will work with hosting infrastructure staff, DBA’s, Operations, and developers and release engineers in the customer organizations. The lead engineer will manage Availability, Change, Incident, Problem and Risk Management processes in support of the applications. The lead engineer has the following responsibilities and duties:
Responsible for meeting SLA’s related to application availability and response times to service requests, incidents, and problem resolution.
Responsible for the integrity of the database of application related assets, including software licenses and virtual and physical hosts assigned to customer applications.
Lead and coordinate day to day server application management, monitoring and incident response and resolution and working with the customer application development and release engineering teams to establish effective application monitoring and to identify application changes to improve operations.
Perform capacity planning and performance monitoring and trending of application behavior and recommending infrastructure or application changes to improve application performance.
Review and approve change requests to each application and the infrastructure supporting each application.
Periodically report on the performance of the services and organization against Service Level Agreements, particularly with respect to service availability, incident response, and ticket aging.
Lead and coordinate root cause analysis and problem resolution of operational issues involving interaction between applications, server hardware/firmware/OS and storage by working with software developers, QA, and infrastructure engineers.
Provide oversight and guidance for the architecture, development best practices for application hosting, and infrastructure deployment for each application.
Support compliance with Trimble’s ISO 27001 certified Information Security Management System, including performing, managing or participating in security training, risk assessments, business continuity planning, and related activities
Follow policies, processes and procedures for managing IT systems, Incident, Availability, Problem, Change, Configuration, and other IT Service Management disciplines. Recognize process deficiencies and propose change and continual improvement
Perform a variety of related duties and tasks as required.
The candidate should have a BS degree in an IT related field or equivalent training and 3-5 experience managing systems and applications in an enterprise, mission critical environment.
Experience supporting applications with high availability requirements in a 24x7 environment is required.
Experience managing software development life cycles for ASP applications is desired.
The candidate must be service oriented and experienced in creating a process oriented environment.
ITIL certification and experience with ITIL-based processes is strongly desired, particularly in the areas of incident management, problem management, and capacity management.
Experience with managing IT systems and technology – Linux, Solaris, Windows, IIS, Apache, Oracle, SQL Server, Cisco, SAN storage, etc. – is strongly desired.
Professional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively present information and advocate positions to managers and engineers are required.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time.
Ability to solve complex problems.
Interest in learning new disciplines.
Flexibility to work off-hours to support global project teams and to manage system changes during planned maintenance windows.
