Under the direction of the Materials Manager, the incumbent is responsible for immediate oversight of the supply chain function.
Key Areas of Responsibility & Duties:
Responsible for the roll out and compliance of Kinross Supply Chain Policy.
Supervise the placement of capital and major orders by obtaining the most economical price, terms, and delivery.
Expedite capital and other orders; solicit substitutions, premium time or special handling, as necessary. Arrange visits to vendor facilities to evaluate qualifications and capabilities in conjunction with production, maintenance, and engineering personnel.
Supervise the purchasing function and ensure controls over the purchasing cycle are consistently applied. Direct all outside contractors. Recommend changes in office practices and procedures.
Expand bidders list by sourcing new suppliers, checking references, and submitting to the Accounting Manager. Monitor the distribution of inquiries and bid packages to vendors. Organize bid meetings and ensure bidders receive complete specifications. Receive and evaluate sealed bids, prepare bid analysis sheets, and recommend favorable bidders.
Review programs for overruns on time and material contracts. Resolve discrepancies involving extra charges due to changes in scope.
Conduct exit interviews with contractors, fabricators, and vendors. Visit Vendor facilities for appraisal of fabricating capabilities, supply stock, etc.
Provide cost effective procurement support for all operational managers.
Prepare and submit annual department budget to Accounting Manager for review.
Manage the professional development of purchasing staff members (buyers) and Warehouse supervisor.
Participate in special procurement projects initiated by partners.
Administer the Supply Chain RFQ and RFP process.
The Materials Superintendent is responsible for the all contractual agreements pertaining to the procurement of materials, equipment or services that support the business efforts of Round Mountain Gold Corporation and insures compliance with Kinross Supply Chain Policy - Specific Requirements for Agreements.
Directs activities in conjunction with the Round Mountain Gold Corporation Materials Manager concerning contracts for purchase or sale of equipment, materials, products or services: Examines performance requirements, delivery schedules, estimates of costs of materials, equipment and production to ensure completeness and accuracy. Prepares bid documents, process specifications, test and progress reports (as applicable), and other exhibits that may be required.
Reviews bids for conformity to contract requirements and determines acceptability of each bid.
This position is responsible for a staff of 5 salaried Buyers, 1 Warehouse supervisor and 1 clerk.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft office (Excel, Word & Access) ERP systems (preferably JD Edwards) as well as the ability to use company mandated contractual templates. Ability to analyze situations, make logical decisions, and choose best course of action.
High energy and self-motivated with strong organizational skills.
Some engineering and technical background to evaluate and deal with technical situations and communicate with engineers.
Undergraduate degree in business or Supply Chain Management required.
5-10 years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
