Essential Job Duties
NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Assistant Director, University Recreation. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to cultivate world-class recreation programs, services and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom.

The candidate will provide leadership and supervise University Recreation facilities with an emphasis on student staff instruction, supervision and development.

NC State University is seeking an energetic, innovative, student-centered leader for the position of Assistant Director, University Recreation. We seek an individual with proven leadership experience capable of working in a fast-paced, results-oriented team. The candidate will empower student and professional staff to cultivate world-class recreation programs, services and facilities that promote and enhance student success inside and outside of the classroom.

The candidate will provide leadership and supervise University Recreation facilities with an emphasis on student staff instruction, supervision and development.
• Provide strategic leadership and supervise three full-time professional staff including the Coordinator, Facility Operations, Reservations & Event Manager, Member Services Coordinator and indirectly supervise approximately 200 student staff. Provide instruction and development opportunities to students through in-service training in compliance to certification requirements and performance evaluations. Specific examples include CPR , First Aid, AED training certifications and learning outcomes associated with critical thinking creative thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, initiative, innovation and other transferable skills related to the department integrated learning program. Ensure staff provide highest level of customer service for students and members.
• Develop policies, procedures and provide leadership and oversight of University Recreation indoor and outdoor facilities. Document and follow-up all incidents and accidents that occur in facilities.
• Responsible for developing and administering strategic plan to increase revenues through recruiting and retaining non-student members that exceed $650k annually.
• Develop policies and procedures for all internal/external groups utilizing indoor and outdoor recreation facilities to ensure proper compliance with department practices and University guidelines. Responsible for developing and administering strategic plan to increase revenues through Event Management that exceed $225k annually.
• Provide strategic leadership for the recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, mentoring and coaching of approximately 200 facility student staff that includes: program assistants, facility supervisors, member service specialists, facility assistants, event supervisors and event assistants with a focus on student development and learning.
Assist as needed in all required departmental functions.

Minimum Education/Experience
• Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, student affairs, higher education administration or other related field. If in progress, must be completed by date of hire.
• At least two years of professional experience in recreation facility management.

• Demonstrated experience working with budgets and facility risk management;
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate, develop partnerships and work effectively as a member of a fast-paced, results-oriented team;
• Demonstrated knowledge of national trends and best practices in collegiate recreation facility management;
• Demonstrated knowledge of theories and practices in promoting student development and learning;
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Demonstrated experience organizing and developing leaders through practical application and learning;
• Demonstrated success managing, supervising, and mentoring student employees;
• Demonstrated integrity, ethics, and commitment to diversity and inclusion;
• Commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
• Four years or more of progressively responsible professional experience in collegiate recreation facility management.
• Previous success supervising professional staff.
