The Utilities Production Engineer works with other Utilities Supervisors, Maintenance staff, and Engineers to ensure maximum efficiency of the Utilities Department, including CFB Boilers, Recovery Boiler, Lime Kiln, Water Plant, Effluent Treatment Plant, and Power Systems.
Develop and lead process improvement projects in all areas of the department.
Primary Mill contact for #1 Water Plant and Boiler Water Treatment and supply systems.
Oversee department chemical management along with the mill chemical supplier
Assist in process troubleshooting and research as needed.
Assist in shutdown planning and execution.
Maintain lab equipment and testing standards to ensure all tests provide meaningful data
Assist in efforts to optimize Cogen and Power Boiler operation.
Assist in efforts to optimize Lime Kiln and Recovery Boiler operation.
Assist in efforts to optimize Effluent Treatment Plant Operations.
Participate in capital improvement projects.
Day to day and long term functions of the position are very diverse and will change based on the current needs of the department and the mill.
Bachelors Degree in Chemical, Power or related Engineering field is required.
3-5 years experience in Pulp and Paper or the Power Industry preferred
Desire and ability to obtain State of Maine High Pressure Boiler Operator ’s license and progress through licensing preferred.
Basic understanding of chemistry and its role in the Liquor Cycle and Chemical Recovery boilers.
Process focused, detail oriented, with an aptitude for the interpretation of process data using Distributed Control Systems, Pi-Process Book, Proficy, SAP , Lotus Notes and MS Office.
LSS green belt certified or ability to obtain certification
Strong oral, written, listening, documenting and communication skills.
