The Development Specialist will be responsible for account management/corporate relations of assigned corporate donors as well as solicitation and procurement of new corporate donors as directed by supervisor. Will also be
responsible for sponsor benefit fulfillment, private and corporate foundation grant solicitation efforts, individual giving strategy and execution, donor communications, managing the donor database, special projects and other assignments as directed.
The Development Specialist will handle corporate donor development to support other Marketing & Development areas including but not limited to special events and third party fundraising and assist as needed in supporting communications, sports partnerships
and other department needs as appropriate.
They may also be assigned additional special projects and responsibilities such as proposal writing, development of sales presentation materials, planning and coordination of an annual Sponsor Summit event and other key assignments yet to be determined.
Corporate Development and Account Management - Develop new corporate relationships that result in new donors as well as grow existing corporate donor relationships. Provide account management to assigned corporate donors to include serving as main point
of contact to and from donor, manage contracts and agreements, initiate billing and payments in coordination with USO-Metro finance team, and ensure all sponsor benefits are fulfilled. Build a superior professional relationship with corporate sponsors to
enable a mutually beneficial experience that exceeds the sponsor’s expectations.
Individual Giving – Will develop, manage and execute an annual individual & major donor giving program for USO-Metro to include research, solicitation plan (online & offline), timeline, etc. Will work closely with USO Inc.’s major donor team to coordinate
Foundation Giving – Will work closely with other development specialist to coordinate local corporate foundation/grant solicitation efforts in the region. Will research, identify and target local foundations whose funding criteria match the needs of our
organization and pursue those grant opportunities and will write, submit and track all grant requests and applications. Will work closely with USO Inc.’s foundations team to coordinate efforts locally as appropriate.
Donor database –Manage donor database. Responsible to coordinate utilization across Marketing and Development team, ensure database is current, pull reports, research issues, input new data and other duties specific to optimizing use of this tool by the
department and the organization.
Sponsor Summit – Will work closely with Supervisor and VP, M&D to develop an annual ‘Sponsor Summit’ event to facilitate strategic planning and encourage corporate sponsor engagement and timely commitment to support USO-Metro opportunities.
Donor Communications & Reporting – Handle writing and dissemination of quarterly donor newsletter. Assist as needed and as directed by Supervisor with compilation and dissemination of annual stewardship reports, fundraising performance reports, USO-Metro’s
Board of Directors quarterly report, sponsorship opportunity updates, strategic plan updates and department calendar.
Actively participates in coordination of marketing and development corporate sponsor/promotional activities and special events which may require evening and weekend work.
Assists as needed in preparation of meeting materials for various meetings/events and coordinates attendance/appearance of staff or volunteers at events.
Regularly reports on progress of assignments.
Maintains positive relationships with board members, donors, volunteers, staff and other key stakeholders.

Bachelor’s degree with a background in English, communications or special events.
Corporate development, fundraising, sales, marketing, communications, meeting/special event planning experience a plus.
Prior experience in a non-profit or military setting a plus.
Excellent computer skills.
Military experience or a knowledge of the USO and its programs and services a plus.
