Hattery is part venture fund, part creative lab, with a team of specialists in strategy, design, business and finance, and technology. We’re looking for a UX Design lead to help us better the world by crafting compelling and meaningful experiences based on insights into what delights us, motivates us, helps us learn and makes us commit. We work collaboratively and multi-disciplinarily with each other and with our clients (we take both a financial and meaningful stake in what we build together.)
Like us, you’ve probably come from cultures of tech giants and tech start-ups, design studios and ad agencies, non-profits and foundations. You’ve also become tired of business as usual, selling products and services that were incremental improvements on what already exists, or simply about consumerism.
You are a thinker and a doer, and enjoy coming at a problem strategically but also creating actual solutions. You ache to apply your expertise, wisdom, interests and quirks in crafting UX solutions that’ll make a positive impact on the world—a day job that you’d be happy to say ‘defines you’.
What will get our attention:
5+ years in leading UX strategy and design at studios with collaborative teams (or equivalent education & work experience)
Portfolio of visual design with an aesthetic that’s sublimely seductive
Degree in Interaction Design, HCI, Industrial Design or related design field for UX, with 2+ years applying and proving those skills in the real world
Industry experience in UX design for web, mobile, social, data-visualization and/or gaming
UX design solutions that are insightful, effective, and based on user behaviors
Captivating communication skills with the ability to listen, respond and present brilliantly, rally, advocate and evangelize

Leadership: engaging and empowering people is at our core—how do you interact and support the team, as well as project the needs, wants, and desires of the audience of the product or service being designed?
Solutions from behavioral insights: Human-Insight-Centered design approach, where you are adept at understanding and applying learnings from Behavioral Economics, Neuroscience, Psychology and/or Social Anthropology—beyond TED talks, Lehrer, Kahneman, and Underhill, what have you discovered and applied?
Nimble and innovative methods: contextual inquiry, user stories, post-its and wireframes are things you do well, but may be thrown out the window at start-up speeds—how would you create consensus through a leaner UX methodology while still creating work that is better and more engaging than just minimum viable product?
Unconventional, multi-disciplinary collaboration: we’re made up of engineers, filmmakers, writers, strategists, designers, and business phenoms. It’s this diversity of perspectives and stories that will make the days exciting, give depth to our collaboration, and yield better products.
