BARGAINING UNIT APPLICANTS WILL BE GIVEN CONSIDERATION PURSUANT TO THE APPLICABLE LABOR AGREEMENT

Pursuant to Appendix Q, Natural Resources, Paragraph E-2 of the AFSCME Contract, First Consideration may be given to Natural Resources Aides and Natural Resources Specialists.

This is a bargaining unit position that is governed by union contract and is classified which means the employee is subject to examination and has employment protection under the terms of the Ohio Civil Service Laws. An Established-Term Irregular employee does not have a standard 40 hour week and instead is provided an identified number of hours and has an approximate starting and ending date each year.

Performs variety of general support services for Division of Parks & Recreation within the Northwest District, headquartered at Maumee Bay State Park: performs routine area maintenance (e.g. mows & trims grass; picks up litter, refuse & trash containers & transfers to dumpsters; trims & cuts trees; cleans fire rings & grills); performs landscaping & grounds maintenance (e.g., plants/prunes flowers & shrubbery; spreads mulch; plants grass; cuts trees); paints signs & buildings; assists with repair to area structures (e.g., changes light bulbs; builds picnic tables, fire rings, & grills); performs minor carpentry & plumbing (e.g., cuts boards & nails in place, assembles picnic tables; replaces electrical switches, replaces damaged water lines); performs maintenance to vehicles & equipment (e.g., checks oil, changes wiper blades, lubricates parts, replaces filters, changes tires, replaces hoses & fans belts, jump starts vehicles, cleans vehicles); performs custodial duties (e.g., performs cleaning functions in park buildings, restrooms & wash houses; sweeps & scrubs interiors; applies chemicals for cleaning, sanitizing & deodorizing; removes trash); performs general groundskeeping & area maintenance duties (e.g., sweeps grass off sidewalk, picks up litter); operates 2-way radio to communicate with park staff.

Trains & oversees Natural Resources Specialists engaged in various tasks; demonstrates proper use of equipment & tools; provides customer service by providing park information & directions to visitors; records visitor complaints; aides in emergencies (e.g., calls for help, reports & assists in locating lost children); assists with special parks programs & events (e.g., sets up equipment, takes down equipment); drives state vehicle from area to area of the park, District, & state to perform job duties, attend meetings & training.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition & subtraction & in reading & speaking common English vocabulary.
OR
  • equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of employee training, lead work, safety practices (equipment operation, Occupational Safety & Health Administration [OSHA] regulations*), agency policies & procedures (ODNR & Division Policy’s, Rules & Regulations, including Safety policies & regulations)*. Skilled in trade (minor carpentry , electrical, plumbing), equipment operation (personal computer, telephone, hand & power tools, push mower, riding mower, trimmer, chainsaw, tractor with standard transmission, power washer, pick-up truck, motor boat, 2-way radio). Ability to apply principles & solve practical, everyday problems; add, subtract, multiply & divide whole numbers; comprehend simple sentences with common vocabulary; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; demonstrate strength to lift up to 25lbs.
