GIS Analyst

. Under supervision, this person will perform standard geographic information system (GIS) work while developing professional proficiency. This person will apply standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out a sequence of somewhat diversified GIS tasks requiring the use of analysis, interpretation, and deductive reasoning. S/he will be able to detect problems in using standardized procedures due to changes in client needs or project direction.

Typical duties and responsibilities of the job include:
Conduct data gathering, conversion and analysis of GIS data.

Prepares data documentation or metadata for GIS Projects.

Prepares maps and exhibits with GIS data sets.

Participates in client needs analyses.

Maintains continued knowledge of technology developments in the GIS field and use of GIS software.

Performs such other duties as the Supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.

Job Details

Appropriately Qualified Candidates will possess the following:

Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science or related GIS Environmental Discipline. Minimal experience is required of incumbents with directly related Bachelor’s Degree; no experience is required with a Master’s degree.

Good interpersonal and computer skills and capable of developing technical writing and communication skills.

Familiarity with GIS technology and software packages preferred.

December 2012 Graduates of local colleges and universities with directly related programs of study strongly desired.
