This position is as a Sr. Systems Engineer of the Transition Team of the IEC (Integrated Exploitation Capabilities) organization. The position involves extensive system integration and troubleshooting skills and experience. It requires the candidate to remotely support or travel to Operational Customer sites for support system upgrades, post upgrade trouble shooting and training of the site system administrators, and provide short notice fly-away support.

The selected candidate will work with a small team of experts to share information and collect advice. However, the candidate will work mostly independently and will be expected to resolve issues in high pressure situations. In addition to applying their technical skills and expertise, the candidate exhibits sound judgment, solid communication and interpersonal skills, and professional decorum as they are working with both Customers and competitor personnel who support other enterprise/domain segments. This position requires system administration and system integration experience, but is for a near expert in those fields.

Key qualifications:

- Extensive experience and knowledge of Unix based operating systems to include Solaris and DataOnTap and/or extensive experience and knowledge of Windows based operating systems
- Excellent problem analysis skills
- Experience with Solaris packaging and Live Upgrade and/or experience with Windows 7
- Knowledge and experience with Sun servers and NetApp RAID appliances
- Proven experience in a fast-paced, customer-present environment
- Familiarity with the Geospatial Domain and products (and associated vendor products), and familiarity with this customer set
- Experience with Unix shell scripting

The candidate must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time to domestic and international locations. Weekend and shift work is required periodically.

The candidate needs the following Windows skills and/or the following Unix skills:

Windows skills:

Extensive knowledge of Windows operating systems;
Microsoft training;
System Administration experience;
Windows XP, Vista, Server 2000 and Server 2003 experience;
familiarity with VB Scripting or Power Shell;

Unix skills:

Extensive experience and knowledge of Unix based operating systems to include Solaris and DataOnTap;
Experience and ability to work with UNIX and/or Windows at the API, device driver and kernel/framework level;
Experience and ability to set and adjust environment variables within UNIX and Windows;
Experience and ability to automate processes and procedures using scripts;

Desired skills
Knowledge and experience dealing with COTS and the COTS lifecycle, especially end-of-life issues;
Experience designing, developing and documenting operating system architecture/design for large distributed systems;
Experience working with vendors via forums and direct contacts to resolve implementation specific integration issues,
MCSE certification a big plus;
Security + certification a plus;
Microsoft certification a big plus;
Windows & experience a big plus;
Solaris 9 and 10 experience;
General Linux experience, especially RedHat and SuSE;
Experience with advanced Linux distributions such as Gentoo and Slackware;
Experience building Linux kernels;
General Linux distribution packaging experience, especially using RPM;
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft .NET and/or Sun ONC;
Programming experience, especially using C++, C or Java;
Image Processing and Remote Sensing experience;
Experience with GIS COTS products (ArcGIS, ArcView, ESRI, ENVI, others);
Geospatial Domain experience;
Geospatial Customer Intimacy;
Network Engineering experience;
Computer Security Engineering knowledge;
System tuning experience;
Capacity planning;
Knowledge and experience engineering WANs and LANs using Ethernet, GigE, and/or ATM;
Knowledge and experience developing and maintaining deliverable engineering documentation and presenting at associated program reviews;
Knowledge of VMWare systems and associated products
