Job Description
Title: Linux Systems Administrator / User Support

Responsibilities

Performs systems analysis, solutions, tests and implements interface programs

Manages and analyzes system performance

Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems to ensure minimal disruption of mission-critical applications

Updates software specifications

Establishes policies and procedures regarding access methods and time, security validation checks, and documentation

Researches hardware and software issues and prepares system design specifications to meet requirements

Maintains fault-tolerant systems and manages system backups

Manages the functionality and efficiency of a group of computers running on one or more operating systems

Administers virtual and physical servers, routers, and switches in support of LAN / WAN / VPN operations

Monitor operational status of servers and their subsystems

Interacts with users and maintains a variety of user desktop, laptop and peripherals

Coordinates and installs hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery

Develops and implements testing strategies and document results

Maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned

Supports resolution of all types of Incidents both locally and using remote tools

Responsible for data retrieval and analysis from failed field servers

Participates in special projects as required

Experience with the following desired

Debian / Ubuntu Linux
Redhat Linux
Novell SUSE Enterprise
VmWare Enterprise ESX / VSphere
Windows Server XP through Windows 7
Advanced knowledge of LAN / WAN / VPN routing protocol’s and interfaces
MS Office installations
ODBC connectivity
Cisco IOS +VPN
Basic understanding of Active Directory services
Strong familiarity with PHP, PERL, BASH, scripting languages and script creation
Strong background with MYSQL server / databases
Understating of SMTP mail protocols and diagnosis
CCNA Certification

Qualifications

Min 5 years experience with Linux Systems Admin role.
Preferred RHEL or Novel certification

Availability

On call responsibility will be required for after-hour support of service restoration activities.

Travel

Local travel (Houston only) will be required to offsite collocation
