We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly productive and results oriented IT professional to join our Web Systems Team as a Systems Administrator focused on Configuration Management. This Team member will be responsible for supporting a web hosting environment and providing configuration management support, engineering, deployment, troubleshooting, and administration of BioInformatics applications developed using Open Source technologies. He/She will help maintain the version control, build/deployment, bug tracking and portal environment, and will be a primary point of contact for administrative tasks supporting the development community and end users.
Administer application Servers hosting version control, bug tracking, portal applications to support collaborative development efforts in an enterprise Red Hat Linux environment
Administer application Servers hosting Atlassian tools like Confluence, Jira, Fisheye and Crucible
Administer web-based project management and collaboration software like GForge
Work with existing staff in the coordination of various tasks / activities supporting a large number of software development teams
Support of technical activities to automate application and content deployments using AntHillPro Server
Perform builds utilizing AnthillPro Build Server and Apache Ant scripts
Review build and deployment requirements coordinating with systems administration personnel to verify application hosting resources
Administer source code repositories utilizing Subversion and Apache
Facilitate Change Control Board and Architectural Review Checklist Meetings
Assist build and deployment efforts in an enterprise wide environment comprising Apache / IIS web servers, Zope / Plone content management servers, and Tomcat / Jboss J2EE application containers
Assist efforts to enhance SOPs and technical documentation
Occasional after-hours and weekend support
2+ years of professional Linux / Unix experience, preferably with some administrator experience and shell scripting
Understanding of software engineering best practices
Programming background with one or more of the following: Java, C/C++, Perl, Python, PHP or one of the web scripting languages
Knowledge of version control tools like Subversion
Experience in compiling and deploying open source software / tools like Apache
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with customers, team members and managers
Exceptional customer service and communication skills
Desired Experience/ Qualifications/Certifications
- Candidates without a Bachelor’s Degree must possess 6+ years of professional IT experience with a minimum of 2 years of professional Linux/UNIX experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technologies or a related area
Open-source software installation, troubleshooting, and support in a Unix / Linux / Windows environment
An understanding of the software development lifecycle
Experience in a web hosting environment or supporting a development environment
Exposure to managing, securing, and performance tuning Web / J2EE application servers
Exposure to Windows environment
Knowledge of Perl, Python, PHP, Wiki, Maven, and JAVA technologies
Knowledge of Atlassian tools like Confluence, Fisheye, and JIRA etc.
Knowledge of Database connectivity tools (Oracle, MySQL, PostGres)
Preferred professional certification(s): Linux+, Red Hat Certified Technician, Sun Certified System Administrator, SUSE Certified Linux Professional, CMII Certification, Any CM Certifications or Training
