The primary purpose of this position is to perform machining operations and

welding to accomplish the manufacture and repair of aircraft components, tools, equipment, parts and special tools. Performs all types of machining operations to manufacture, modify, and repair aircraft parts, support equipment, tools and assemblies. Fabricates local manufactured items required for aircraft components. Lays out work, reads and interprets blueprints and technical publications, designs and draws working sketches, makes special tools, dies, jigs and fixtures, performs production work of aircraft parts and works to tolerances varying from .0l0 to .0005 inch. Plans work, taking into consideration the type and numbers of machining/welding operations, machines to be used and type of set-ups and methods of production such as cutting, milling, grinding, welding and polishing. Performs shop calculations such as determination of peripheral cutting speeds and settings. Welds ferrous and non-ferrous metals and alloys such as cobalt, chrome, nickel, aluminum, magnesium and titanium. Welds butt, lap, tee, and corner joints in flat, vertical, horizontal and overhead working positions. Welds metals and alloys by shielded gas welding (Heli-arc), metallic arc, oxyacetylene and resistance welding processes. Makes precision measurements using micrometer

vernier calipers, dial indicators and gauges at various dimensions. Conducts training of drill status guard (DSG) members assigned to the shop.

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

: The basic qualification requirements are indicated below. These qualification requirements must be met, in addition to any military requirements, in order to be found qualified for and selected to this position.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience, education or training which demonstrates a basic knowledge of machining processes and the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers and other types of associated machine tools.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE

:

1. Knowledge of various machining operations, accepted machine trade methods and techniques.

2. Knowledge and skill in using any of the conventional and/or computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools.

3. Knowledge of a wide range of manual welding processes involving oxyacetylene, oxyhydrogen and other industrial gases as well as applying

knowledge of various manual arc welding processes.

4. Knowledge of machining operations to manufacture, modify and repair

aircraft parts, support equipment, tools and assemblies. Fabricates local

manufactured items required for aircraft components.

5. Skill and ability to lay out work, read and interpret blueprints and technical publications, design and draw working sketches, make special tools, dies, jigs and fixtures, perform production work of aircraft parts and work to tolerances varying from .0l0 to .0005 inch.

6. Knowledge and ability to compare machine parts with drawings, technical orders, or specifications for conformance with established tolerances, fits and surface finish.

QUALITY AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE

: The required amount of experience/education will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification. The quality, type and scope of the experience/education must be of such nature as to demonstrate that applicants are fully qualified to perform the duties at the level for which they apply.

DOCUMENTATION

: Applicants must explain in detail, in the application, how the specialized experience was acquired, including applicable dates. Applicants should include, with application, any training completion certificates/transcripts in the areas covered in the KSAs.

MILITARY COMPATIBILITY

: Individual selected must be assigned, prior to appointment, to a compatible Duty Air Force Specialty Code of:

2A7X1.

APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS

: Excepted Civil Service. Individual selected must be assigned to an enlisted

position in the New Mexico Air National Guard. Individual must wear the uniform as prescribed by National Guard Bureau policies and the Adjutant General of New Mexico.

EVALUATION METHOD

: All applicants will be initially screened against mandatory qualifications. If more than ten applicants are qualified, applicants will be evaluated on the basis of relevant experience, training and education, awards, and performance appraisals to determine the ten best qualified. Rating and ranking to determine best qualified will be conducted by a panel of representative who have technical expertise in the career field of the position being filled and a staff representative of the Human Resources Office. The evaluation will be based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) considered necessary for successful performance in the position.
