Job Description: This position is for local residents only. I. Basic Function Responsible for the preparation of bakery goods from scratch. Responsible for estimating and ordering bakery supplies.
Reviews and participates in quality control checks, ensures that products are being made consistently, and ensures adherence to food safety standards. II. Essential Duties Implements G.R.E.A.T. Service program to the fullest extent.
Participates fully in the REWARDS and Shrink Awareness programs. Has line responsibility for the efficient, profitable and safe operation of the Bakery Department within the limits of and in accordance with the Corporate Store manual and overall store program as directed by the Store Manager. Ensures that all department personnel strive to maximize bakery production to meet the needs of the customer first program at all times. Maintains a high level of coordination and communication with the Deli manager and other department managers to ensure a smooth flow of products and services, and maximum utilization of cross-merchandising techniques.
Assists Store Manager and District Managers in setting quarterly and yearly department budgets. Maintains constant follow-up to assure budgeted sales, gross profit and controllable expense items within the Bakery Department are achieved. Assists in the development and growth of all departmental personnel by ensuring regular implementation of company training, evaluation and counseling. Establishes and monitors associate work schedules within the department.
Possesses sufficient knowledge and ability to teach others the methods of bakery production. This includes things such as mixing, scaling, proofing, baking, frying and finishing. Maintains product quality and cost control in line with department sales and profit objectives. Maintains effective control of department labor and inventory in line with established budgets and guidelines.
Maintains effective department security in compliance with Company policy and directives. Ensures the physical appearance of the department and back room areas meet Company maintenance and sanitation standards at all times. Maintains all department equipment in good working order and recommends purchase of equipment when deemed necessary. Monitors dress code for all department associates.
Monitors and controls all department supplier service and delivery. Maintains adequate and appropriate department records at all times. Maintains an awareness of competitive activity within the store marketing area at all times as it relates to the Bakery Department. Promotes a high level of personnel morale within the Bakery Department utilizing friendly and professional methods of communication.
Maintains an awareness and concern for the Company s interest and investment at all times through the regular practice of sound judgment. Job Requirements: III. Must frequently walk, talk or hear, and reach with the hands and arms; occasionally, the associate must crouch or kneel. Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items stored in elevated or overhead racks or shelves located above refrigerated boxes, in stockrooms and other storage areas. Must have sufficient memory retention skills to memorize weekly ad prices and specials.
Must occasionally exert or lift up to 70 pounds carrying bulk containers of flour, sugar, lard and other materials and frequently lift moderate amounts of weight.
