Cargill Corn Milling North America is a manufacturer of value-added corn and sugar based products serving the Food, Feed and Fermentation segments. From facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, we provide a wide variety of products and services including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrups, dextrose syrups and sucrose that are used in an array of beverage, brewing, confectionery, food and pharmaceutical applications. We also produce a variety of innovative, dry corn ingredients that are used in cereals, snacks, breads, tortillas and animal feed applications. In addition, we produce fuel-grade ethanol and are a leading supplier of corn oil, acidulants, corn gluten meal and corn gluten feed products.
The primary responsibility of the Quality Management (QM) Chemist is to ensure products meet or exceed customer requirements for quality and food safety. Assurance of product quality necessitates the Chemist monitor Quality Management systems including instrument calibrations, maintenance, cross-checks, and methods. It also requires the Chemists to follow procedures, validating raw materials, food safety and providing training. Finally, our QM Chemists are expected to understand our plant processes and provide technical advice and troubleshooting to support our production operations. Data analysis, trend recognition and effective communication are required competencies. The success of the QM Chemist position is measured in impact to customer satisfaction, minimization of process variation, process recoveries, waste reduction and cost minimization.
35% - Instrument calibration and maintenance, food safety responsibilities, auditing, over site of testing performed in control rooms, data analysis, trend identification, troubleshooting, and initiating corrective action.
25% - Daily assessment of process quality parameters and quality assurance systems; incl. Cross-checks, raw materials
20% - Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned (i.e. process improvement projects, development and modification of QM procedures and documents, recruiting and interviewing of new employees and assisting other locations with process start ups and projects.)
10% - Final product approval. Assurance of compliance to customer specifications.
10% - Communicating processing data, final product and wastewater results to appropriate parties. Training of new Quality Management Chemists, Analysts, Operators, Technicians and personnel from other functional areas in quality systems.
4 year degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry OR 4 Year degree in science field with minimum 1 year general chemistry + labs, 1 year organic chemistry + labs
At least 2 upper level courses relating to Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or Biochemistry
QM Chemists are interviewed and selected basis demonstrated abilities of leadership, communication, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work.
Chemists are additionally evaluated on their technical skills and knowledge.
Willing/able to work a 12 hour rotating shift including weekends, holidays, on call, and nights as needed
