Inspecting exit doors and alarms, offices, storerooms, and departments for security and the absence of fire or other hazards.
Identifying, resolving, and documenting safety hazards and security vulnerabilities. Ensuring traffic and visitor control and writes tour reports that note safety hazards and security vulnerabilities. Controlling unruly visitors and patients. Assisting patients and visitors by providing information, directions and physical help.
Ensuring traffic control, monitoring conduct of visitors on premises, and confronting unauthorized persons for questioning. Investigating and writing incident and security reports on accidents and thefts occurring on hospital property or adjacent areas where hospital staff, patients or visitors are involved. Addressing complaints concerning lost and found property. Conducting package, locker, parcel and equipment inspections as appropriate or as instructed.
General Qualifications * A minimum of one year of progressively responsible experience in a security or related a public safety area that includes experiences in dealing with emergent situations and identifying and resolving issues that pose a potential risk to patients, visitors, staff and/or property. * Successful completion of at least 21 credits of relevant course work in criminal justice, security or law enforcement from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the minimum of one year experience. * Current certification as a Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) granted by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within two years of hire or transfer into the security officer job. * Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning while maintaining a courteous and tactful demeanor in dealings with employees, visitors, and patients.
EMT and related emergency care training is preferred. Previous experience working in a medical setting.
