Harvest Logistics Planner

Southern Timberlands – Columbus, MS

General Information:
This position is part of the Mississippi/Alabama Timberlands organization and will report to the MS/AL Harvesting Transportation Manager. Position is located in Columbus, MS.

Background:
The fundamental purpose of the Harvest Logistics Planner is to identify and implement the best and most cost effective method to transport logs.

Key Functions:
Review and schedule loads for logging contractors based on logger production, mill inventories, and marketing targets.

Route contract trucks to safely and efficiently deliver loads to meet market demands.

Maintain a constant awareness of the loggers’ needs, drivers’ location and availability of trucks which is essential to make the most efficient use of available trucks.

Maintain communication with truck owners/drivers, logging foreman, transportation manager, wood flow managers, harvesting managers and marketing representative.

Arrange transport of logs from source to destination.

Respond to changes in schedule from loggers and drivers to minimize productivity loss.

The majority of the day will be spent optimizing the logistics model and amending the harvest delivery system.

Qualifications

Proven commitment to safety with knowledge of safety processes.

General understanding of logging, trucking, logistics, geography and optimization.

Ability to effectively communicate with other business units (

listening

, written, verbal)

Ability and willingness work under pressure while handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Self-motivated and able to follow through to complete objectives.

Strong customer service skills.

Positive attitude.

High integrity.

Creativity in problem-solving.

Able to work independently and as a team members / flow-to-work.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Present self in a professional manner.

Basic understanding of GPS software.

Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite

Willingness to enhance skills and learn other business units.

BS/AS in Forestry, Logistics, Business or 5 years experience in related field.
