Level 3 - Performs aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic design and analysis of flight vehicles to ensure that the vehicle meets requirements. Key contributor to developing new and improving existing technologies, tools and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance and reduce cycle time and cost. Plans, conducts, coordinates and/or develops test requirements and evaluates test results to ensure compliance with requirements. Assesses the impact of proposed regulations to determine the effect on cost, performance, producibility, maintainability and safety. Supports certification and qualification processes of the aerodynamic/ aerothermal characteristics of flight vehicles. Assists in training others. Works under general supervision.

Level 4 - Leads, plans and performs aerodynamic/aerothermodynamic design and analysis of flight vehicles to ensure that the vehicle meets requirements. Leads the development of new and improving existing technologies, tools and processes to enhance technology readiness, improve vehicle performance and reduce cycle time and cost. Conducts, coordinates and/or develops test requirements to meet test objectives using established processes. Develops Boeing responses to proposed regulations that impact cost, performance, producibility, maintainability and safety. Trains and coaches others. Works under minimal direction.

Basic - Knowledge in developing innovative aerodynamic or aerothermodynamic technologies, tools, and processes for improving vehicle performance, capability and safety, design and development cycle times, and state of the art or technology readiness level. Limited ability in creating and validating new concepts and design and analysis processes. Ability to assist in training less experienced personnel.

Preferred - Extensive knowledge in developing innovative aerodynamic or aerothermodynamic technologies, tools, and processes for improving vehicle performance, capability and safety, design and development cycle times, and state of the art or technology readiness level. Skilled in creating and validating new concepts and design and analysis processes. Ability to assist in training and mentoring less experienced personnel. Capability to assist in multi-disciplinary technology development. Ability to communicate the technology value to customers and assist in preparation of technology development plans and in proposal development.

[ + ] Computational Fluid Dynamic

Basic - Complete knowledge and can independently apply the CFD tools and process in aerodynamic or aerothermodynamic analysis and design, understand and apply the entire process from CAD to engineering results.

Preferred - Extensive knowledge and expertise in multiple CFD tools and technologies and be able to utilize these tools and technology in aerodynamic or aerothermodynamic analysis and design, familiar with various operating systems. Familiar with FORTRAN and C and be able to contribute to CFD tool enhancement. Serve as CFD application focal in a program.

Typical Education/Experience

Level 3 - Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
