Cargill Dressings, Sauces & Oils refines vegetable and tropical oils and animal fat for a wide range of food and nonfood manufacturers. We also make shortenings, frying oils, mayonnaise, dressings, and sauces for the foodservice industry.
The business operates seven oil refineries, five shortening and oil packaging plants, a mayonnaise production facility, a dressings plant and a culinary sauce facility, all of which are located in the United States. We also operate an edible oil refinery in Mexico.
Customers include major food manufacturers and quick-service and casual-dining restaurant chains. Dressings Sauces & Oils is integrated with Cargill's soybean crushing activities, which provide a reliable source of crude soybean oil for further processing.
The Product Development Manager role is a dynamic and integral position within Dressings, Sauces & Mayonnaise (DSM) with responsibility for driving all aspects of new product commercialization along with managing the technical relationship across the entire customer base. The lifeblood for DSM is the Limited Time Offer or LTO, therefore this team typically commercializes more than 50 formulas annually. The Product Development Manager coordinates activities of the Product Development team to ensure they are fully aligned with the overall business strategy along with effective resource deployment to deliver against commercialization timelines. Responsibilities also include oversight for all technical aspects including specifications, process instructions, product approvals, effective formula transfer to operations, technical training and troubleshooting.
30% Deliver against DSM development strategy by driving all aspects of new product commercialization through formulating matches for existing customer products or translating target culinary recipes into commercially feasible formulations from bench level through qualifying plant trials and successful tech transfer, meeting established success criteria and key milestones
25% Management responsibility for Product Development team including performance assessment, development and effective resource deployment to ensure all projects are meeting commercialization timelines
10% Responsible for all technical aspects of new products including formula, specifications, manufacturing order of addition, nutrition and ingredient legend
10% Provide outstanding technical support and service across external customer base, including collaboration with Culinary Team to execute customer ideation and product demonstrations
10% Evaluate and advise Commercial Leads on technical/operational feasibility of new product opportunities
10% Provide technical support, as needed, to Operations/QA to trouble shoot and resolve production and quality issues
5% Collaborate cross functionally with Operations, Procurement, and Commercial Leads to aggressively identify and evaluate cost savings opportunities
5% Provide technical support to Quality Assurance and facility Quality Control Managers in development, training and execution of procedures and policies that address food safety and product quality
B.S. Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Biology or closely related scientific discipline
5+ years of experience in the manufacture and development of Dressings, Sauces or Mayonnaise or 10+ years in product development of other products could substitute for dressings and sauces
Exceptional command of Food Science and ingredient functionality
Exceptional project management skills with demonstrated ability to drive product development from lab scale through continuous plant production
Demonstrated leadership ability – decisive and action oriented
Highly effective interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work as a member of a cross functional team
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Customer facing experience with demonstrated success in building strong customer relationships
Approximately 25 – 30 % travel
Master’s degrees in Food Science or closely related scientific field
10+ years in dressings and sauces development
Currently/formerly employed by a top manufacturer in the Dressings, Sauces or Mayonnaise category
Demonstrated success across multiple product categories and/or technical functions
