Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center is a world renowned organization dedicated to the progressive control and cure of cancer through programs of patient care, research, and education.

The RNAi Core Facility at MSKCC enables Sloan-Kettering Institute investigators and collaborators to access first and second generation, state-of-the-art RNAi technology for three primary purposes: (1) to broaden our understanding of individual genes, (2) to associate newly characterized genes to specific biological processes, and (3) to identify potential cancer drug targets. The Core assists investigators in the design and execution of RNAi screens, maintains sequence-verified shRNA and siRNA libraries targeting the human and rodent genomes, and produces customized novel shRNA reagents for single gene loss-of-function studies in a pooled format.

In the role of, you will carry out FACS / flow-based cell sorting services including experimental design, protocol development, and sample preparation for multicolor experiments. Also required is the set-up and calibration of bench-top machines, laser tuning, and analysis / interpretation of data with software which may include Cellquest, FlowJo or Summit. A secondary function is to conduct in vivo studies to assess gene function in mice. This includesmaintaining a mouse colony and managing breeding to produce multi-allelic experimental animals for examination of gene function at all stages of development.

Managerial responsibilities include supervising and mentoring research technician staff in daily aspects of experimental procedures and contracted projects; arrange appropriate training for the safe operation of complex laboratory equipment; insure complete understanding of safety guidelines and MSKCC rules and regulations in handling sensitive experimental materials.
M.S. in Molecular Pharmacology or Biochemistry required (may be substituted with similar degree in Biomedical Sciences, Biology, or other related field); Ph.D degree a plus. A minimum of seven years of experience in a biological laboratory environment required; RNAi experience and/or substantial practical experience in multi-parameter cell sorting a plus. Also requires excellent oral/written communication skills; superior organizational skills with high attention to detail; ability to multi-task and to work either independently or as a contributing team member in a complex research institution/ clinical environment. Familiarity with instruments commonly used in flow-based cellular experiments: FACS Aria, Cellavista, Guava Cedex and Octet required. Experience with computational analysis/visualization programs (e.g., Galaxy, Spotfire, Access, FilemakerPro) and statistical packages a plus.

Hours: 9am – 5pm (Monday – Friday)
