Description : Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator, and within established policies and procedures, performs scientific investigative research in biopsychosocial areas related to patient care. Researches literature in the field; participates in the design of experimental protocols and develops new procedures to carry out established research objectives. Conducts research according to established protocols; collects and analyzes data using statistical methodology. May assist in writing presentations and papers for publication based on the research performed. Primary tasks involve: (a) conducting a comprehensive search of the scientific literature on alcohol use and HIV, (b) retrieving relevant manuscripts, (c) reading and reviewing the literature, (d) recording features of the studies, and (e) entering the relevant data into a database. Applicants with sufficient statistical training may also be trained to: (f) determine the reliability of content coding, and (g) calculate effect sizes from statistics reported in the articles
Qualifications : BASIC KNOWLEDGE: BS/BA in related field ( preferably in a health or social science discipline ) . Master's degree desirable. EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years' professional research experience. Data entry skills and PC experience required. PREFERENCES: Applicants should have: (a) strong quantitative background (statistics), (b) ability to read and understand manuscripts (e.g., journal articles, dissertations) evaluating alcohol use and HIV, and (c) experience using spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) or other database software (e.g., Microsoft Access); applicants should also be able to demonstrate: (d) attention to detail, (e) an understanding of the importance of following study protocol, (f) an awareness of the necessity of ensuring the quality of secondary data collection, and (g) reliable work habits. Desired / Ideal Qualifications: Completion of graduate-level coursework in statistics is highly desirable.
