Must be flexible to work 5 a.m.-1:30 p.m or 10:00 a.m.- 6:30 p.m. schedule.
Assists in the preparation and serving of all meals. Follows recipes; weighs and measures ingredients to ensure that required amounts of food are prepared. Serves portions of food that meet the nutritional requirements of the National School Food Service Program. After each meal, cleans assigned section in the food service area to meet guidelines and standards set by the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC); specifically: machinery, serving equipment and utensils, pot and pan sink, dishes and dishwashing machine, floors, coolers and freezers. Supervises juveniles / SCDC inmates and allows them to assist in food preparation and serving. Assists supervisor with the security and behavior of juveniles / SCDC inmates. Helps food service supervisor grade work habits of juveniles / SCDC inmates. Operates the following equipment in the kitchen: Mixer, potato peeler, meat slicer, dishwashing machine, ovens and grills, deep fat fryer, pressure cooker and steam pot, brazier pan, garbage and trash disposal, and vegetable cutter.
Minimum and Additional Requirements:
There are no minimum training and experience requirements for this class.
Requires considerable knowledge of food preparation; considerable knowledge of methods, materials and appliances used in food preparation and service; working knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures pertaining to food preparation and service; ability to follow oral and written instructions; tenth grade education and two years experience in quantity and quality cooking. Must have a valid SC Driver’s License. Drug testing required.
