The Goodrich Corporation Materials & Simulation Technical Center located in Brecksville, OH, has an opening for an R&D Engineer to work in the area of design optimization. The primary purpose of the position is to support multiple projects involving the design and structural optimization of aerospace components that utilize metallic, composite, and/or polymeric materials. The individual will apply advanced optimization software tools to minimize the weight of components and systems, subject to manufacturing constraints and performance requirements. Additionally, the individual will perform structural, thermal or coupled-physics analyses to help resolve specific performance issues for SBUs on an as-needed basis. The Technical Center supports multiple business units of Goodrich Corporation in development of advanced materials, products, and manufacturing and engineering processes.

Responsibilities:
 Apply parametric and non-parametric optimization tools to support the design of aerospace components and systems that utilize metallic, composite, and/or polymeric materials
 Apply CAD and FEA simulation tools to support multiple projects involving the design and structural analysis of aerospace systems to optimize performance
 Support training of SBU team members in the use of design optimization tools
 Perform structural, thermal or coupled-physics analyses to help resolve specific performance issues for a variety of SBUs on an as-needed basis
 Develop new simulation capabilities, and standardize design/analysis/optimization methods for complex aerospace systems, and transfer to applicable SBUs
 Interact closely with engineering personnel at business divisions to identify opportunities for application of engineering tools and scientific expertise to product development and engineering processes
 Prepare technical reports incorporating conclusions and recommendations
 Prepare technical plans which support SBU goals

Basic Qualifications:
 A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Mechanics or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience
 Knowledge and experience in the design, analysis and optimization of light-weight components and systems for aerospace applications
 Expert with commercial non-parametric (topology and topography) optimization tools such as TOSCA, OptiStruct, ATOM
 Expert with commercial parametric optimization tools such as ANSYS DesignXplorer, NASTRAN Solution 200, Isight
 Expert with commercial FEA and CAD tools for transient analysis, nonlinear materials and anisotropic materials
 Experience simulating components and assemblies utilizing metallic, polymeric and/or composite materials
 Knowledge of test methods for material properties and system performance
 Experience correlating structural or thermal models to test results
 Team player who enjoys working closely with businesses
 Excellent communicator – written and oral
