DESCRIPTION

Develops, implements, administers, and maintains policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of the company's database systems. Implements data models, dimensional models, database/warehouse designs, data access, data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes and tools, and database maintenance and backup routines. Resolves database performance and capacity issues, and replication and other distributed data issues. Includes participating in changes to the environment, testing updates, maintaining documentation, and monitoring performance.

DUTIES

Key Result Areas
Essential
  • Responsible for support and maintenance of the production database systems. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • All aspects of database configuration, maintenance, backup, performance tuning, patching, and restoration
  • Implement and maintain database security
  • Analysis Services Administration
  • SSIS and SSRS Configuration and Administration
  • Participating in database design sessions, providing conceptual, logical and physical database designs
  • Evaluating and defining how the data model interacts with external data sources
  • Working with application teams in an advisory role during application development, and manage adherence to recommended best practices
  • Reviewing and/or recommending database design(s) and providing formal written feedback and direction
  • Reviewing and analyzing existing processes, identifying improvement opportunities, indexes, partitioning strategies, etc. and make recommendations to improve the processes, schema, SQL, and scripts
  • Performing root cause analysis and making recommendations for the remediation of data issues
  • Working with process owners to implement changes and document improvements
  • Coordinating change management activities
  • Providing technical assistance to staff and key business partners and ensuring continuous operational excellence in a proactive fashion. Participating in providing 24/7 on-call support.
  • Schedule, perform, and monitor system backups. Perform data recoveries as needed
  • Assist in tracking, researching, and resolving database system issues as it relates to hardware and software integration
  • Monitors capacity trends and reports performance levels associated with database systems
  • Schedule routine tasks using software support tools and scripts
  • Document database systems support procedures
  • Complies with HIPAA regulations in privacy and security
  • Escalates issues appropriately if needed.
Additional
  • Proficient in TSQL, understanding logic of stored procedures, triggers, functions, and in-line SQL queries.
  • Working knowledge of Backup and DR strategies
  • Ability to effectively cross train
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts to staff
  • Recommend hardware and software upgrades according to need
  • Ability to work with vendors to solve problems and create efficiencies
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, information systems, or related field.
Experience
  • 1-2 years of information technology systems and/or database administration experience
Skills
  • Database modeling and design
  • Dimensional modeling and design
  • Programming or scripting language in addition to T-SQL (PowerShell, C, etc.)
  • Exposure to Business Intelligence tools
  • Knowledge of database security concepts, including access, and encryption
  • Understanding of database synchronization, failover, and recovery
  • Dynamic Management Views
  • Managing Microsoft Cluster Environment
  • Database Auditing
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity design and management
  • Database Mirroring
  • Managing SQL Server replication
  • Experience in SAN environment
  • Experience in Virtual Environments (VMware)
  • Experience with Database performance monitoring tools and processes
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) support
  • Prepare high quality documentation of design/architecture/database infrastructure documents
  • Assist in ad hoc projects, assignments and responsibilities as necessary
  • Work with methodologies and technologies for DW/BI systems
  • Good interpersonal, organization & leadership skills.
