Performs psychiatric examination & evaluations for adult & geriatric mentally ill patients: diagnoses & treats mental illness using medication, psychotherapy or other treatment modalities; provides psychiatric services to forensic patients as assigned; completes mental status reports as assigned.

Participates in treatment team meetings as Treatment Team Leader: discusses patient problems, treatment & progress with hospital staff members, patients' relatives, guardians & courts.

Maintains physicians' part of patients' records in compliance with professional, Departmental TJC, Medicare-Medicaid & Quality Assessment/Peer Review requirements.

Examines psychiatric patients & prepares certificates of examination & reports for judicial cases: attends court hearings & testifies; prepares other reports for courts, attorneys, Bureau of support & other agencies.

Performs other related duties: serves on various hospital committees & participates in committee meetings; assists as back-up for other psychiatrists as requested; participates in continuing professional education activities (e.g., lectures, seminars, film presentations, clinico-pathological conferences); participate in education supervision of psychiatric residents & students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Certificate to practice medicine per Section 4731.13 of Revised Code; satisfactory completion of residency training program in psychiatry, as approved by the residency review committee of the American Medical Association, the committee on post-graduate education of the American Osteopathic Association or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology & Psychiatry or has been recognized as a psychiatrist by the Ohio State Medical Association or the Ohio Osteopathic Association on the basis of formal training,

and 5 or more yrs. of medical practice limited to psychiatry per Section 5122.01(E) of Revised Code.

Major Worker Characteristics:

Knowledge of medicine; psychology; sociology; anatomy; physiology. Skill in administering medication. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; interpret extensive variety of technical material in books, journals & manuals; deal with many variables & determine specific course of action; handle sensitive contacts with persons under medical care.
