To supervise the daily operations of the Jim Dailey Fitness Center.

Essential Job Functions:
Supervises the daily operations of the Jim Dailey Fitness Center; schedules, assigns, and reviews the work activities of full-time and part-time Fitness Center staff members ensuring effective staffing of center and instruction of all classes; serves as backup in the absence of Center staff. Reviews fitness programs on a regular basis to assure the meeting of community fitness needs; formulates and implements new programs or modifications to existing programs. Evaluates Fitness Center programs for cost efficiency and effectiveness based on revenues and expenditures; proposes changes in programs. Prepares and updates operations manuals for Fitness Center programs and equipment. Collects or supervises the collection of Fitness Center fees; deposits collected monies on a regular basis. Maintains computerized records of Fitness Center member enrollments, fees collected, and accounts receivable; prepares monthly reports reflecting those records;ensures that operatio nal issues regarding financial transactions comply with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. Assesses the exercise equipment needed for Fitness Center; makes recommendation for equipment purchase or modification. Prepares bid specifications for the purchase of Fitness Center equipment for review by the Recreation Programs Manager; prepares purchase requisitions for Fitness Center supplies. Responds to inquiries and complaints of Center participants; investigates operational and administrative problems or complaints; reports findings and recommends solutions to supervisor; recommends course of action to supervisor for improving efficiency and effectiveness of Center operations. Ensures the safety of Center staff and program participants; ensures Fitness Center equipment is in safe condition and working order. Develops, maintains, and monitors operational procedures, guidelines and safety procedures. Monitors the Fitness Center's purchases to ensure they do not exceed budgeted amounts; prepares tentative annual budget figures for the Fitness Center. Ensures the maintenance of building cleanliness, grounds, and swimming pools; conducts regular inspections of facility. Contacts outside agencies, such as the Red Cross to provide special training programs for Fitness Center members. Coordinates conferences, festivals, and other programs conducted at Center. Develops advertising and marketing campaigns to attract new Fitness Center members; conducts public speaking to explain the center's programs. Contacts supervisors of other Fitness Centers to inquire about their programs and operating procedures.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assistant Fitness Center Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements:
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of a college degree in Physical Education, Recreation Administration or a related area; two (2) years of experience in recreation facility management, or a related field; and two (2) years of supervisory experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
