Supervises, trains, monitors and participates in the care of zoo animals, grounds and facilities. Prepares and maintains records for all aspects of animal management. Provides customer service to zoo defined customers. Performs all tasks using zoo resources for measurable productivity.

Essential Job Functions:
Prepares animal diets which vary widely among the many types of animals maintained; cuts fruit and fish, shreds meat, mixes grains, hauls hay and alfalfa bales and fills water tubs and pools; prepares special diets such as baby bottles formula; prepares bulk amounts of food in tubs.

Job Standards:
Two years coursework from an accredited college or university or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Valid State of Kansas Driver’s License.

Equipment:
Hose, shovel, scrub, rake, food preparation equipment, motor vehicle; some animal care equipment and office equipment.

Work Environment:
Outdoor and indoor, exposed to cleaning chemicals, animal waste, dust and weather.

Location of work: All zoo animal care areas

Must pass KBI background check and pre-employment urine drug screen.

Valid Kansas Driver’s License Required. Must meet Driver Qualification standards as set forth in Sedgwick County’s Fleet Vehicle Operation and Usage policy.
