We currently have an junior level position for an Associate Editor with ARCHITECT-a national, award-winning magazine and website about architecture and design.
The associate editor will have two primary job duties: 1) to research, assign, and edit front-of-book articles, mainly on the business of architecture, building technology, and cultural trends; and 2) to report and write some front-of-book articles as well as generate supplementary material to be used online. He or she should be an excellent writer and an aggressive reporter, with a strong interest in all aspects of contemporary architecture. An educational or professional background in architecture is preferred, but not essential.
. Research and conceptualize story ideas for specific magazine departments
. Research and write two to three stories for the print edition each month, and produce additional content (including slideshows and videos) for the website as needed
. Assign stories to freelance writers, and work with them on deadlines, revisions, and edits
. Assist in the management of special projects for the magazine. These include rankings, surveys, and design awards programs
Qualified candidates need to possess the following:
. Education: Bachelor's degree or higher; a degree in architecture, architectural/art history, or journalism would be ideal
. A minimum of two years' experience in journalism
. Strong writing, grammar, and research skills
. Willingness to be flexible and effectively manage several tasks at the same time
. A desire to work in a fast-paced environment
. The ability to take initiative, especially when it comes to generating article ideas and building a network of industry contacts
. Familiarity with Adobe software (especially InCopy). Familiarity with video-editing software is a plus
