Logistics Engineer –

NAT is responsible for supporting the business development and Transportation Management operations teams by designing transportation and supply chain solutions for new and existing clients through Transportation and Network Modeling studies using JDA i2 Transportation Modeler and IBMILOG Logic Net Plus XE software.

Primary Duties:
  • Conducts Transportation and Network Modeling studies to improve our customer’s supply chains
  • Identifies opportunities and assists operational implementation for tactical transportation improvements including consolidation, mode shifting, DSD route design, dedicated carriage and continuous movement
  • Participates in the implementation of new business initiatives by assisting initiative owner with data collection and analyzes initiatives to anticipate possible roadblocks and identify possible solutions
  • Analyzes work force utilization, department productivity, account data, and process flow charts to determine efficient utilization of workers and equipment
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and drives costs savings by initiating process improvement projects
  • Recommends methods for improving efficiency based on experience in international and domestic logistics process and procedures
  • Assists in the design of contracts including: scope of work development, assumption justification, operational plan development and pricing
  • Other duties as required and assigned
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Operations, or Industrial Engineering from a 4 year college or university
  • Minimum 5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience using JDA i2 Transportation Modeler to conduct freight consolidations, continuous moves, and pool distribution studies
  • Experience using IBM ILOG Logic Net Plus XE software to conduct network validation and optimization studies
  • Knowledge of pricing methodology, accessorial application, operational understanding, and DOT rules & regulations for transportation modes including truckload, less-than-truckload, intermodal, parcel, air freight, and ocean freight
  • Experience with lean six sigma methodology preferred
  • PC literate with experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access
Essential Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. The employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and temperate climate conditions.
