The Assistant Director will join a team of career development professionals assisting undergraduate and graduate students regarding career decision-making, employment opportunities, academic opportunities, internships, and other career related experiences. The successful candidate will be expected to assume primary responsibility for building a strong cooperative relationship with students and faculty. As an important member of a team of professionals, the Assistant Director will participate in career development-related work: career counseling, career interest inventory facilitation, planning and delivering of marketing and outreach activities, creation and facilitation of workshops and other educational programs, participation in and development of special events and conception and production of related publications. Extended hours will be required on an as needed basis, including frequent evening, and occasional early morning and weekend assignments.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a committed and experienced professional with a demonstrated record of ethical, fair, and participatory leadership. Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills are essential. The incumbent will have a service orientation, a mentoring philosophy, and possess the ability to serve the broad scope of the University. The ideal candidate will have a collaborative disposition and possesses the ability to think both critically and strategically.
The incumbent must possess excellent customer service skills, ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities, perform highly detailed work, strong quantitative and analytical skills, work well under pressure, advanced knowledge of learning technologies as they relate to career development, and a keen awareness in using social media for business purposes.
Bachelor’s degree is required with a Master’s degree highly preferred. Counseling experience and a strong understanding of student development in higher education is essential. Previous university career services, higher education, or recruiting experience preferred. Ability to read, write, and speak a language other than English is highly desirable.
