The position is responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the EHS programs with a particular focus on personnel and process safety. Working with plant management, and in coordination with other functional areas, the successful candidate will lead process and personnel safety initiatives to proactively address and mitigate risks.
· Develop and manage process safety program and systems to identify and mitigate risks. This includes development of procedures, training programs, and other tools to support site.
· Work with teams of plant engineers, maintenance, R&D, finance, materials management, operations employees, and the site leadership team, to plan/ lead in the development and implementation of process safety improvements
· Provide project input concerning process and personnel safety requirements included in generally accepted engineering standards such as NFPA, ASME, API, and CGA.
· Evaluate emerging trends and requirements within process safety and personnel safety regulations and requirements, assess potential impacts to the business, and develop proposals to address.
· Lead process hazard analyses/hazard operability studies for processes using various methods (e.g., fault tree analysis, LOPA, etc.).
· Provide technical assistance for projects particularly in the area of inherently safer design practices
· Ensure effective resolution of noncompliance events, when they occur, including determination of root causes, corrective and preventive actions.
· Carries out other responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, as well as federal, state and local laws and regulations.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge and Skills: · Experience in) Federal and State regulations relative to process safety as well general regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, NFPA)
· Skilled in development, implementation and/or continuous improvement of process safety principles and programs as well as additional aspects of occupational safety. Familiarity with process equipment and plant maintenance practices.

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office applications.

  • Project Management Systems experience a plus.

Education

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Requires the ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, lift, physically access all internal and external areas of the facility, wear half-mask and powered air-purifying respirators along with other personal protective equipment, use office equipment such as a personal computer, copier and fax machines, and communicate via telephone, frequently conduct safety tours in all areas of the facilities. Noise levels in this environment may vary depending upon machinery being used.

Minimum Qualifications · BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Safety, Chemistry, or related Process Safety discipline
· Minimum 5 to 8 years experience in process safety in an industrial, chemical manufacturing, or pharmaceutical facility.
· Minimum 3 year experience in the implementation of process engineering / technology design.
· Prior Pharmaceutical industry experience desired.
· Engineer in Training (EIT), PE or CSP designation preferred.
20% travel to different Florida locations with scheduling flexibility to cover the different work shifts when necessary.
