Public Safety Officer will patrol the campus by vehicle, bicycle and on foot with attention to:
Enforcing the rules and regulations of the University and reporting violations
Reporting and/or taking immediate action of any circumstances or conditions that present any danger to students, employee, visitors, or property of the University.
Detecting actual or potential fire, or possible hazardous situations.
Locking and unlocking buildings as mandated by general and/or special orders.
Performing various safety and security inspections as directed.
Assisting the general public and the campus community in public relations and services (directions, information, customer service, etc.).
Determining the condition of operations equipment and reporting malfunctioned equipment per regulations.
Providing assistance to emergency services, namely fire, police, and ambulance, when requested.
Providing walking escorts when requested.
Enforcing University parking regulations.
Locking/Unlocking areas when requested by proper authority.
Prepare and submit complete and accurate reports in a timely manner.
Performing other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Public Safety or his designee.
Physical ability to work in inclement weather, stand or walk for 8 to 10 hours, perform moderate lifting.
Work all shifts.
Work overtime when needed.
Adhere to University and Department policies and procedures.
Report any arrest or conviction of law as soon as possible.
Report any suspension and/or termination of driving privileges as soon as possible.
Must maintain valid Act 235 certification, or enhanced relevant certification, i.e., Act 120 Basic Police Training Academy Certification for Municipal Police Officers**
Must have a valid drivers license
Must maintain certification in the use of Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training (OCAT)*
Must maintain certification in the use of the baton *
Must maintain certification in First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)*
Bike officer must undergo fitness examination and bike officer training*
** Act 235 certification must be obtained during 90 day probation period at the employees expense.
