Cargill Meat Solutions has an opportunity for a Environment,Health andSafety (EHS) Manager in Dayton, VA. Cargill Value Added Meats Retail facilities utilize state-of-the-art beef, pork and turkey processing capabilities to deliver high-quality meat products to our partners. Advanced technologies and imaginative people create innovative solutions and distinctive value for our customers. Our retail customers come to us from traditional grocers, supermarkets and warehouse clubs to provide their meat and deli needs. We provide innovative solutions for their fresh meat case, frozen meat departments, deli counters, and more.
Job Description and Responsibilities
This position will develop work processes to keep programs/processes current to ensure EHS Programs meet regulatory and internal requirements. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reporting as required. Conduct and/or lead incident root cause analysis to causes and trends. Promote a culture of continuous improvement; and develop and review actions to improve areas of opportunity. The position will assist with coordination of EHS committees, conduct facility auditing, and assist in coordination of PSM programs, oversee and provide training as necessary, promote and build a strong culture of corporate responsibility. The position requires the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with company personnel, and outside agencies and resources, strong people skills, good problem solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast paced environment.
Ability to lead significant change in large organizations; BU Subject Matter Expert (SME) in occupational safety and food processing environmental risk; Subject Matter Expert (SME) for EHS management systems execution (i.e. ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, VA Environmental Excellence Program and the Voluntary Protection Program); Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Behavior Based Safety; Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Ergonomics
25% Facilitate, monitor and ensure the EHS continuous improvement processes for the complex are effective to meet location, BU or corporate initiatives.
20% Develop and maintain an effective level of awareness with EHS initiatives and processes.
20% Establish, promote, and champion a strong EHS vision; utilize the PDCA process for continuous improvement; provide accurate performance indicators to monitor and measure EHS trends; establish goals to move forward and enabling actions to accomplish established goals
20% Facilitate, monitor, and ensure compliance with Cargill as well as regulatory programs including EPA, VDEQ, OSHA, and DOT regulations.
15% Develop the Dayton EHS team to be EHS leaders as well as those outside the function to be champions of EHS initiatives; and work with other CVAM-R locations to identify and share best practices to maximize processes and performance.
Bachelor’s Degree (safety, environmental sciences or engineering preferred)
3 – 5 years EHS management experience
Albility to travel 10 - 15%
Certified Safety Professional
Bilingual skills (Spanish, Arabic, Russian preferably)
Knowledge of DOT, OSHA, EPA, and Workers’ Compensation law
