Under direct supervision of the Director of Dietetic Services, the Clinical Dietitian plans, directs, and provides nutritional care to patients; conducts nutritional assessments, and supervises the work of the Diet Aides.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Accurately access patient medical records
Input physician’s orders appropriately to patient’s records
Review documentation for ongoing patient care
Communicate patient record with ancillary hospital services
Maintains patient confidentiality as outlined by privacy and HIPAA guidelines
Reviews patient census list and the dietitian work list for nutritionally at risk patients and screens per protocol.
Orders diets and supplements for nutritionally assessed patients as appropriate.
Performs monthly kitchen safety and sanitation assessment.
Provides nutrition consults as needed.
Has continuing education in specialties according to American Dietetic Association guideline goals.
Receives and processes feedback from dietary staff, nursing staff or physicians regarding nutrition services rendered.
Charts appropriately in the patient medical record after each official nutritional assessment or education.
Serves as a resource person in nutritional care for medical and nursing care.
Directs and guides work of Diet Aides and is responsible for their productivity and workflow.
Assesses patient meal acceptance through meal rounds, surveys, and patient visits.
Conducts nutrition education classes for patients, staff and the community as required.
Monitors the department Quality Improvement program and initiates corrective action.
Suggests and implements revisions or adaptations of procedures for efficient operation of department. Develops and revises nutrition care and patient meal service policies.
Assists with department orientation program, training, and in-service education of the dietary staff.
Carries out to completion special projects as assigned by the Director of Dietary.
Attends interdisciplinary meetings that are scheduled, and any other meetings or committees as required and concerned with patient nutrition.
Provides diet instruction to outpatients per physicians order.
Provides nutrition services to outside facilities contracted by St. James
Knowledge of age specific growth and development.
Ability to involve family and/or significant other in decision-making related to plan of care.
Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organizational mission and goals.
Follows all applicable hospital policies and procedures.
Participates in facility Quality Improvement/IOP Program
Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
Follows "Patients Rights Policy" at all times.
Assesses and instructs patients in specific specialties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- B.A. or B.S. degree in Food and Nutrition
- ADA registration required
- One or two years' clinical experience preferred
- Licensed to practice as a Nutritionist in the State of Montana
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Registered Dietitian
- Friends and Family Life Support w/in 6 months of hire
- Licensed Dietitian in the State of Montana
- Serv Safe Certification required within 6 months of hire
