This position is in the Department of Medical Computing Services. The position is located at the Medical School Campus and will be working at various auditoriums, classrooms, meeting spaces throughout the Medical Center; public computer labs.
This position will work with Faculty, Staff and Students in support of Audio/Visual (AV) equipment in auditoriums, classrooms, conference rooms, computer labs, etc. Responsible for proper setup, operation, and maintenance of various computers, A/V equipment, computer and other equipment and software configurations required for presentations throughout the Medical Center. Works with little supervision and often required to handle unanticipated hardware or other logistics problems. Creative troubleshooting skills are necessary to ensure that presentations run smoothly and efficiently.
Manage equipment for presentations:
•Deliver, set up, operate and break down audio visual equipment, computers and peripherals, and other related equipment in teaching space and throughout the contiguous Medical Center.
•Troubleshoot computer, projection and sound equipment, networking and presentation software problems as they arise to ensure on time, smooth presentations.
•Assist and instruct faculty, staff and students in use of presentation software and hardware.
Computer Lab support:
•Set up computers in student labs. Check/replenish lab printers for supplies and ensure in working order.
•Help faculty, staff and students with general questions regarding, computers and printers, scanners and scanning software, CD recorders and software.
•Answer questions about remote communications with WUSM systems and email.
•Instruct faculty, staff and students in use of printer management software, public printer/copier, tape players, tape and video duplication, AV equipment and software in computer labs.
•Triage AV equipment, computers, printers and copier problems. Resolve problems or request assistance from senior staff members.
•Assist with curriculum materials production.
•Other duties as assigned.
High school Diploma required plus a minimum of one year of relevant experience, preferably in the IT field.
Individual should be self-motivated and able to perform work with little supervision. Professionalism in dealing with customers is expected at all times.
Customer Service: Must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness and empathy. Must be enthusiastic and committed to helping others, and be flexible about dropping whatever tasks is being worked on to help a customer.
Planning and Organization: Individual should be self-motivated and able to perform work with little supervision and handle routine tasks as necessary.
Technical knowledge: Working knowledge of data, slide, and overhead projectors, audio, video and compact disk player/recorders, sound systems and related presentation equipment. Understanding of presentation equipment and ability to determine appropriate equipment for type of presentation. Working knowledge of several generations of PC and Macintosh computer equipment including laptops, internal hard drives, modems, external storage, memory, displays. Working knowledge of current operating systems for Mac and PC, general networking configuration of computers, and working knowledge of PowerPoint. General computer troubleshooting skills such as monitor sync, media conversion, platform conversion.
Technical Solution Development: Ability to work with faculty on presentation design/technology. Ability to quickly recognize, analyze and solve problems.
Technical Support: Ability to solicit relevant information from client in order to sufficiently
describe non-routine problems to technical expert, and effectively communicate solution to client.
The hiring range for this position is $16.64 to $21.21 per hour.
