The Network Support Engineer, Services Delivery is directly responsible to the General Manager, Services Delivery, for the implementation and management of mission critical IP production networks associated with the Satellite based IP platforms and Internet Backbone / MPLS infrastructure used to provide service via the O3b satellite constellation. Position requires a dedication and commitment to providing high level technical competence, professionalism and customer service.
Implement and maintain high availability, scalable and cost effective IP production networks involved in the support of mission critical operations and customer service provision
Implement and maintain network security policies
Work closely with the O3b / SES Operations Centers to provide third level network engineering support during office hours and 24/7 on an on call basis for services and network segments around the world.
Provide and maintain a detailed documentation library for all IP networks under the responsibility of the Services Delivery team (drawings / operational procedures / trouble shooting guides)
Perform network capacity / cost assessments and provide input to business cases for bespoke customer projects
Be able to understand and effectively interact with all stakeholders in the service delivery process
Provide cost effective solutions based on operational, customer and budgetary requirements while taking into account currently available technologies
Stay up to date with security and networking concepts and technologies
Be proactive in recommending / implementing improvements to the existing network infrastructure in the drive for best in class service availability and reliability
Work with vendors with particular regard to new service provision, incident management and network upgrades.
Work with O3b engineering team on project management of large and small scale network deployments.
Experience / Qualifications
Electronics / Engineering / IT degree
At least 5 years of professional experience in IP networking and LAN/WAN technologies including but not limited to:
Spanning-Tree, including 802.1d and 802.1w
802.1q vlan tagging
Dark Fiber with short, long, and extended reach optics
10 Gig Ethernet
IPV4, IPV6, TCP, UDP, BGP,ICMP, IPSec, IS-IS, OSPF including route redistribution
Load balancing traffic and engineering for automatic failover
Routing policy to manipulate BGP attributes
Flow analysis experience a plus
Architecture and Design
Design work for content networks scalable to 10 Gigs or more
Routing policy for auto-failover and transit policy segregation
Understanding of peering policies vs. transit policies
IPV4/IPV6 migration planning
Visio design / diagramming skills
Thorough understanding and demonstrable skills / experience of Tier 1 / 2 Internet backbone networks
Knowledge of satellite communications, VSAT networks or RF theory would be a distinct advantage
Proficiency in Juniper switching & routing is desirable - vendor certifications would be considered a distinct advantage.
Proven track record in the design, implementation and support of high availability IP networks along with associated security, traffic management and monitoring systems
In-depth knowledge of OSI model, QoS and network protocols – BGP / OSPF / MPLS / ATM / SDH.
Some knowledge of Linux / Unix system environments
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; must be able to operate in a high stress environment without losing focus on the end customer or quality of service delivery.
Be able to demonstrate strong documentation and report writing skills for peers and NOC staff; Willingness and ability to teach and train others
Ability to coordinate business requirements and day to day tasks, both autonomously and in interdisciplinary teams
Fluency in English (any other language being an asset)
