The Systems Specialist will work with the Therapeutics and Infectious Disease Epidemiology group (TIDE) within the Department of Population Medicine. The TIDE group manages large, complex, national, multi-institutional research initiatives that often include software development and other IT infrastructure activities. The Systems Specialist will perform a variety of duties to support activities associated with an IT vendor’s implementation and enhancement of new software applications and manage new releases developed by TIDE investigators. In particular, the Systems Specialist will focus on coordinating the enhancements, production defects, and fixes of software applications and monitor and provide feedback to our software vendor. The Systems Specialist ensures the technical requirements are meeting project needs and are effective.

  • Participate in the full lifecycle of outsourced IT-related projects, including development of workplans, design specifications, testing/issue tracking, UAT and implementation
  • Design, develop, and maintain user interfaces and add new functionality to existing applications, as directed by TIDE investigators
  • Understand systems and challenge existing ways of working with an intent to continuously seek ways to do things better and drive greater efficiencies
  • Identify project elements, such as dependencies, risks, issues, and escalate appropriately
  • Facilitate requirements and design meetings to collect product, business and technical needs
  • Participate in network administration of software systems, e.g., provide training and support
  • Help build and maintain our library of project reports, tools, and application manuals
  • Participate in regular project team meetings
  • Summarize and present complex issues to a variety of audiences: technical, non-technical, and stakeholders
  • Document use cases, process flows, test cases, and scripts
  • Prioritize, support, and complete multiple projects under stringent deadlines, and demonstrate flexibility in response to changing priorities

  • BA/BS preferred or related experience
  • 3- 5+ years of experience with software development, health care IT, or health informatics
  • Project management experience
  • Excellent technical skills and ability to share that knowledge with others
  • Project methodology, including Waterfall and Agile is a plus
  • Knowledge of standard application platforms and software development tools/approaches (e.g., bug tracking, JIRA)
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, and ability to operate independently and with good judgment
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information discreetly
