is located near the Yellowstone River and is a few blocks from downtown Billings, the largest city in Montana. The refinery primarily processes a mixture of Canadian light crudes, and heavy Canadian high-sulfur and medium-sulfur crudes. These crudes are delivered by the company-operated Glacier pipeline system, which is connected to third-party systems. A delayed coker converts heavy, high-sulfur vacuum residue into higher-value light oils. Gasoline demand is highly seasonal, with peak demand in the summer driving season. Distillate fuel demand is more constant, but generally increases due to seasonal agricultural and mining activity spring through fall, in addition to normal year-round on-road and railroad demand. There is little home heating oil demand in the Billings marketing area, as this need is primarily met with propane, natural gas, and electric power.
Finished petroleum products from the refinery are delivered by the company-operated Yellowstone, Seminoe, Pioneer, and Cheyenne pipelines, and by rail and truck to markets in Montana, Washington, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Supplying these geographically distinct markets presents a special challenge due to the variation in gasoline octane and summer vapor pressure specifications from region to region.
Process Control Engineers provide process expertise and technical services related to development and implementation of advanced process control systems. Improve, develop, and implement control strategies that improve plant safety, profitability and efficiency. This position generally reports within the technical services department.
Responsibilities may include:
Development, support, maintenance and implementation of advanced process control applications, process optimization, process information management systems and alarm databases.
Maintenance of process control hardware such as workstations and servers.
Work with DCS technicians to install and modify process controls.
Assist operating teams with developing and implementing alarm management strategies.
Complete process control and design packages for Management of Change (MOC) requirements.
Develop P&ID’s, participating in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) changes, provide input for development of operating procedures.
Provide advice, training and development initiatives in process control.
Train Operators, Operations Supervisors and Area Engineers to maximize benefits of advanced controls.
Develop and implement yearly master plans for advanced controls and online optimization.
Performance monitoring of unit operations, advanced controls, and online inferred properties.
Occasionally working outdoors and wearing Personal Protective Equipment.
Legally authorized to work in the United States
Bachelor’s degree in related engineering discipline
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
Experience with real time systems, historians, and PLC’s
Experience in process controls, applications and systems.
Direct experience in refining and or chemical industry
Experience in refining/chemical industry in automation and control applications
Experience with Honeywell RMPCT, Emerson Provox/Delta V.
Direct experience with HYSYS modeling
Solid analytical/problem solving skill with high level of attention to detail
Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment
Computer proficient including applications for word processing, spreadsheets and databases
