The Library at The University of Tampa has a position available for a Technical Assistant II/Library Specialist Cataloging. This is a non-professional position requiring computer technical cataloging work. This position reports to the Technical Services Librarian. Responsibilities include: 1. Catalog library materials using bibliographic records from OCLC. 2. Assign LC call numbers, subject headings, and other metadata; perform authority work. 3. Input item level information. 4. Participate in quality improvement projects which include but are not limited to locating and removing obsolete records and materials. 5. Maintain statistics. 6. Supervise student workers. 7. Process all materials for circulation. 8. Shelve materials throughout the library that are sometimes covered with dust.
The successful candidate will have: 1. Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. One (1) year experience with a library cataloging automation system such as Voyager. 3. Knowledge of OCLC Connexion, basic cataloging rules and principles, MARC formats, and LC subject and classification system. 4. Familiarity with Microsoft Office needed for data entry. 5. Attention to detail and accuracy. 6. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks. 7. Ability to shelve materials high and low involving reaching and stooping. 8. Ability to stand for long periods of time. 9. Ability to push book carts with material that may weigh up to 75 pounds.
