  • The primary purpose of this position is to provide a variety of military pay services for active duty, reserve, and/or retired service members as well as annuitants.
  • Determines, processes, and follow-up on a wide variety of complicated pay actions in one or more specialty areas which require carrying out numerous different and unrelated procedures.
  • Researches, audits, and makes pay adjustments involving a variety of complicated pay problems correcting accounts involving pay changes due to overturned disciplinary actions, allotment reconciliations, etc.
  • Manages, resolves, and processes a wide variety of complicated debt collection cases which typically require extensive research, review, and application of prior year laws, regulations, GAO decisions, and audit of several months to many years of pay history.
  • Performs miscellaneous technical tasks in support of military pay actions. Provides customer service in person by telephone, and completes correspondence (e.g., when answers written inquiries, prepares letters to obtain missing information, etc.) related to military pay.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Back to top SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-05) or equivalent that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of a large body of rules, regulations, laws, and procedures for one or more military pay specializations; the data system(s) used to support military pay actions; and federal debt collection rules and regulations.

Federal Time-In-Grade (TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-05 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1. Knowledge of a large body of rules, regulations, laws, and procedures for one or more military pay specializations; the data system(s) used to support military pay actions; and the federal debt collection rules and regulations.

2. Skill in performing arithmetic computations to compute military pay.

3. Ability to interpret/apply regulations and procedures related to military pay.

4. Ability to communicate orally and in writing.

5. Ability to operate a calculator.

6. Ability to use a keyboard; a qualified typist is not required.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE : Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
